Okay, recently had to rearrange things a bit, and now my betta has a ten gallon tank all to himself. I was wanting to add some mellow fish to his tank to keep him company, since the last time he was all alone in a tank, he was a little depressed and inactive. I can't use african dwarf frogs. Tried that, and he scared them poor thing half to death, by stalking him around the tank. I had to move the frog into a different tank.

Any suggestions?

Rasbora hets and checkerboard barbs, how many can I put in the tank without overcrowding it?

Most any tetras make great tank mates for bettas. I would avoid anything known for fin nipping, like tiger barbs, but other than that most typical, small community fish will do very well in the tank with a betta.

In a 10 gallon, I would go for a small school of neons, maybe a school of rasbora hets or checkerboard barbs and a few cory catfish for the bottom. Tat should be both colorful and active and all of them will get along very well.

Try some Harlequin Rasboras or Red Tail Rasboras. They would be good for tank mates. Get maybe 5 red tails or if you go for Harlequins get maybe 8 of them. Some smaller Tetras would also be good. You could get Black Phantom Tetras or Lemon Tetras. Make sure to get 5 or 6 of the Tetras if you decide on getting them.

Deffinately no guppies in your tank

1-2 pepper cory's or similar
3 zebra danios
3 mollies
3-5 neons

and real plants

that's about it for your tank not to be overcrowded

Personnally I have zebra danios, balloon mollies, platies, and a pepper cory with my betta, and they get all along great

Hope that helps
Good luck

I agree with Magicman. The fancytails are not good tankmates...They get along great with minnows

Talk to the pet shop about it but i beleive that a gold fish could be compatible with the beta.....you have to watch your different fish species to make sure it is a conpatible species so your beta wont kill it...
