That could be planeria or larvae from some small flying insect. Either way, they are generally a sign of poor water quality. Clean the gravel very well with a gravel siphon once a week and change about 25% of the water as you go. That will keep it clean enough to not have this problem. To get rid of the one's you have, start by doing that serious gravel cleaning. You might have to remove 50% of the water to get it all clean. Then, if you see more left int he tank, you can treat with something like Maracide or Coppersafe to kill them.

Are the worms small and white? I think it could be planaria.

Planarium grow in tanks that have too much uneaten food in them. Here's what to do:

1. Clean your aquarium. All accessories and the walls of your tank, and especially your gravel (or any substrate) because planarium feed off the uneaten food in the gravel. Clean your gravel every day with a siphon.

2. Add some aquarium salt. Not table salt, it has to be salt specially for aquarium use. Half a teaspoon per gallon should do it, or a tablespoon per five gallons.

3. When your gravel is finallly really clean, start removing some of it every day until it is about 1/4 of an inch deep.

4. Add Quick Cure. You can find Quick Cure at your local fish store. It's 1 drop per gallon.

I've also heard that baby fish like baby mollies like to eat planaria, so if it doesn't work, maybe you can try adding some small fish to your tank.

Try putting about 3 pinches of salt, just enough to kill the worms, and to make sure that you don't over salt the fish.

You may need to dump some rat poison in to take care of them.
