You probably are seeing one of what used to be called a fungus - either Saprolegnia or Achyla, an algae, or hydra. See this photo of Saprolegnia growing on a dead bug in water: http://www.visualsunlimited.com/images/watermarked/227/227311.jpg This is about a day's worth of growth. It'll get not quite 1/2 inch long and thicker with time. It can only grow on organic material (usually uneaten food from overfeeding). This will go away with regular tank cleaning using a gravel vac and not overfeeding.

A pale algae: http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/Algae/brush-algae-small.jpg - some kinds of algae can be pale in color - usually grows on driftwood or living plants. Again, you need to do regular cleaning and partial water changes, but either turn the lights off to prevent photosynthesis, or add aquarium plants and increase the lighting to have the plants out-compete algae for food.

Hydra: http://www.caudata.org/cc/images/articles/critters/Hydra2BRAY.jpg - This is a small, stinging animal that sometimes gets into aquariums. This can be removed by using salt (1 tablespoon per gallon if your fish can tolerate the amount) or an anti parasite medication like clout. Some gouramis also eat these.

My sister married a white dude and we all love him, he's one of the family, so we not all like that. I honestly don't care as long as the black woman I see a white dude with ain't my wife, lol. There's a lot of self-segregation in the black community and an intolerance to outsiders. It's stupid, but to a lot of black men, a black man with a white woman is viewed as a sort of justice: something he's taken from "the man", while a white guy with a black woman is seen as a hostile intrusion into the black community. Sorry to say, but the black community struggles with progress too. The idea of "color-blindness" is something many black people expect of other races, but feel no obligation to live up to themselves.
