Not much other than more oscars. Other large, mean South American cichlids can usually do ok with oscars assuming they have plenty of space. Which of course means a huge tank.

There are a lot of factors that come into play. Size of tank is definitely one of them.

For territorial purposes, you will need at least a 75 gallon tank. 55 is for a single O and still a lot of work. People have done it, but it is not easy, and the O will be aggressive.

Os usually work with either alone, with ONE other O, or in a massively huge tank with 6 or more Os.

If you are buying the Oscar very young, they sometimes tolerate a tankmate and look at it as a 'friend', but will eat a newly introduced fish of the same species. Depends on the Os particular personality in the end. I saw two Os living in a 55 happy, but when they hit 6-7", they would attack each other when they felt cramped, but go back to being close to each other when the territorial issue let up a bit. So every few weeks to months, one fish would have extreme damage on it and had to worry about it surviving.

A way to help with this, have hiding places and some tall fake/real plants and pristine water quality.

Some other fish that can work are a single convict, a single Jack Dempsey, a few Silver Dollars (usually considered a good dither fish for cichlids), a few Tiger Barbs, etc.

The best advice I can give is to go to the forums I will list below, browse through the many, many threads asking the same question, or sign up and ask them yourself as well. A lot of people with tons of hands on experience of what has worked for them and what hasn't. Sometimes it comes down to blind luck if you want to try something different, some things are proven to work.

Even though catfish and plecos have co-existed with an Oscar ... be very careful. They have spines in their fins that can lock out if the O tries to eat it and get stuck in the gills/throat/stomach and risk the life of the O. A specific thread on this is here:

Also, don't get a Pacu, they can get more than HUGE, bigger than most people's torso. Pet stores don't tell people this. I think they need a several hundred gallon tank to themselves when full grown. Check some of the pictures that came with an easy search:

hope you find something that works for you and for the Oscar.

As you know Oscars are extremely aggressive and territorial fish meaning they are bellicose.
When you want to put another fish with your oscar you have to look for the following in the fish you hope to put in.
1-are they aggressive
2-do they require a community
3-how big is it
4-are they tough enough to stand the beating of an oscar
5-do they have large or small scales

The only possible fish you could put with an oscar that has already claimed its territory and is extremely aggressive would be a Pacu and not just one pacu atleast 2 so that the oscar cant chase them both down. Hope this helped

Also you will need atleast a 60 gallon tank to put companions with an oscar if your tank is not 60 gallons it would be best to keep the oscar alone
