I have a Fancy Goldfish and a Chinese Plecostomus (that has eaten a white catfish that was a little bigger) in about a 30 gallon tank together. In a smaller tank I have a male and female betta seperated by a glass wall. I can't get the male (Gomez) to make a bubble nest. He has done it partially before, but I accidentally moved the tank and it was destroyed. I would like to know:
1. How long does it take to make a bubble nest?
2. What should the aprox. temperature be?
3. Should the betta's go into the larger tank?
4. Is there a limitation on how large a betta tank should be for mating?
5. Will the betta attack the goldfish and/ or Plecostomus?
6. Will the Chinese Plecostomus eat the betta's if put in there?

1. An active male betta can build a bubble nest in a matter of hours.

2. 80-85 F is good for breeding bettas

3. No, they need a much warmer temperature than the goldfish.

4. Not really, but functionally a 10 gallon will get the job done and a really large tank would make it very difficult to feed the fry.

5. No, bettas are quie peaceful and rarely ever harrass tankmates.

6. Possibly, it really depends on exactly what fish you have. I'm not aware of a pleco with the common name Chinese Plecostomus, but there are some sucker mouthed fishes with Chinese as part of their name. Some of them are rather aggressive.

The most likely reason Gomez has not built a nest is because he can constantly see the female but not get to her. Try placing a colored screen between them so they can't see each other.

1. The betta will decide what time they want to make the next (within a week)
2. The regular temperature of a tropical fish tank
3. Don't move them in until the bubble nest is complete and the hatching is finished. Only move the male.
4. No, I don't think so
5. Possibly, but mine did not.
6. I have never had that kind of fish, and if he ate the catfish, then he might eat the betta. Anything can happen.
