on a friday, i saw one of my fish laying eggs for the first time. i have never had baby fish, so i have no idea what to do. i removed all the other adult fish, and put them somewhere else, and left the eggs in the main tank as i was too scared to touch them because i could damage them. now , its sunday, and all the eggs have hatched into tiny fry, and they have attached themselves onto the plants, and the glass. i have a 60 litre tank, i have left the oxygen pump on, and turned off the filter so they don't get sucked into it. can someone help me on what i should do next and how to keep these fry alive..

there were two males that chased the female, one a black moor, and the other a oranda, and the female is a oranda

i did not intend for the fish to breed, and so i do not know who the father is, all i know is that the mother is an oranda, and the two males that chsed her in spawning were a black moor and another oranda

It's really important for us to know what kind of fish it was that laid the eggs to be able to give you good advice. Please add that to your question.

EDIT: Given that they are goldfish I would recommend you take a look at this link:

It has excellent information about raising the babies. Congrats and best of luck with them

Do you know what species these are? It might help you get better advice on their specific care. Use the pencil icon under the question to "add details" to this question.

ADDITION: Congratulations! They're probably both the father - females lay the eggs, then the male(s) will fertilize them. So you should get a mix of how the babies look - you'll know more in a few months. Follw the website info Magicman provided and you'll be able to raise them if you want. If necessary, you can put the fry into a large, clean tub - like a plastic sweater or underbead storage box with an airstone so they have more room. You can also get a "T" connector (find these in your pet shop around air pumps and supplies) to split one piece of airline tubing into two, so you can use two containers. Cheap, but effective!

I would keep them seperated, for sure. Start to feed them crushed flake food after a day or two (use the back of a spoon and crush it on a plate, to make a powder). Just put in tiny amounts, and make sure you do plenty of water changes - keep the water clean. Use water from the adults tank to add to the fry tank - they are extra sensitive to chlorine. Then, slowly start increasing food size. Be prepared to lose 80/90% of the fry, specially for a first time.

1. relax

2. you could have kept all the fish in the same tank

3. get a lot of underwater fish tank plants and stick them everywhere, so then the baby fish can hide from the big ones

4. if some die that's the way of life

I think you could've kept the other fish in that tank. They will hatch, and you will have little baby goldfish!
