Yes. Bettas love to have their little hiding places. Let him settle in and he will start to come out a little more. Always make sure he has a place to hide when he gets stressed or else he will be very miserable.

Betta's personalities are all over the board. Some bettas in large tanks (30+ gallons) thrive while others thrive in small gallon tanks. Give the betta some time to get us to his new surroundings. Also, check out petfish.net great fish forum with an area just on bettas.

Yes, that is very normal. My Male Delta Betta has gravel, a plant, and a rock in his 2.5 gallon tank. He hides and sleeps btween the plant and the rock.

As the others said, he might just be settling in or his personality might be a shy one.

Check that your filter is not creating a strong current - Bettas like still water and don't handle currents well, that could cause him to hide.

Other than that, as long as he's eating and swimming a fair bit he should be fine.
