There is a chickadee that recently began to build a nest in a bird house in my backyard. A blue bird has found the bird house and wants to take it from the chickadee. How does one bird "win" the bird house? Does one bird have to kill the other in order to "win" the nesting site?

Have you adopted a bird? What are your experiences? Any additional information or thoughts on bird adoption would also be appreciated. Thanks.

when i first bought this parakeet (Sage), i knew i had enough hours to devote to spending time with it. All of a sudden, my library called in and told me that I got the job there (i had applied for this job a long time ago, and they finally hv a position for me). I'm thinking of getting Sage a friend, so he won't be so lonely without me. We are at the point where he's finally tame and comfortable of getting out of the cage, and he will perch on my finger when i put it close to him. If i get him a friend, will it mean he will stop doing all this with me? will he not want to come out of the cage again? will i have to tame him all over again?

I'm looking at sites that sell chicks. I know what cockerels and pullets are, but what does "straight run" mean?

Yeah I have a pretty active household! I have a 2 year old daughter and 2 small dogs under 15 lbs! But I work from home and have a lot of time to devote to my animals as well as daughter! Also I would like (but not required) a bird that "talks" but not screamers! I would love to have a bird! And i think the african grey is georgeous! And according to what i read about them it would be perfect! Also where could i get a good quality bird other than the local pet store?

I've had two lovebirds in the same cage since December. Can I assume they're of the same sex if they haven't layed eggs yet?

Okay I want to know your honest-to-god oppinions on this.. I had gotten two parakeets and one was mine and one was my kid brothers. After a while he got tierd of the untrained budgies (6 year olds can be like that) so We traded the blue parakeet for a finch with my neighbor, and I now have a finch and a keet in two seperate cages and I am continuing to train and work with the remaining budgie but I don't have as much time as I would like to, to train him/her (it's still a baby) it still is scared of me (after 1 month) and flys away but we're doing okay. It seems really lonely though. And, I mean.. the finch is great and all but what about the parakeet? He never really moves around and goes to his rinds or toys he has a huge compfy cage. He won't eat around me either and he is scared of music. He's gotten out 2-3 times as I was cleaning his cage and when I couldn't catch him I grabbed him from behind gently and put him back. He's only nipped at me once. But I deservied it. Ineed imput!

shows affection in a much calmer and quieter way. My parakeet is a wonderful, active, fun-loving female parakeet who mothers her plastic birdies in her cage. She even spits up seed that she has eaten and attempts to feed this plastic birdie. She kisses it, rubs her face on its face, etc If i attempt to touch or clean this birdie she comes screeching into her cage to see what i am doing. Do I have a problem?

I also have a Cockatiel who is sweet and gentle that my parakeet annoys. such as: following it around, boinks him in the side, teases him, eats his treats, etc. is this ok behavior?

How do I tell the age by reading the numbers on the bands located on cockatiel's feet? I am talking about the bands that people put on their feet when they are 10 years old. I have 3 cockatiels who are banded and there numbers are:

1) 805 AAC 05 N
2) 142 AAC BFB 03 P
3) 1523 AAC 01 N

I have 2 parakeets One male one female. I recently got them. The male bird loves interacting with me and sits on my shoulder, my finger, and watches TV with me. The female wont even want to get out of the cage. She gets on my fingers but when she reaches the entrance of the cage she flies back into it. When she does come out, she avoids me and hides in dark areas. Why isnt she like the male?

Chicago wildlife authorities are planning on training people to hunt out goose nests and destroy goslings by shaking the eggs to crush the embryos or coating the eggs in oil to suffocate the gosling. If you are upset by this and live in Chicago, PLEASE DO SOMETHING!
