My husband and I would really like to get a few pet birds. We would like some that like to live in groups because its fun to watch them interact with each other and its nice to see the beautiful bright colors in groups.

Smaller birds (but not tiny) and tamable (able to handle) pet birds would be ideal.

Another catch is, we have a cat who loves to hunt. I would not want to keep them in the house. I would like to have a large enclosure for them outside on the porch or backyard. I am able and very well know how to build a preditor proof cage for outdoors, just indoors we wouldnt have much room for something like that.

My MIL keeps her parakeets outside and only brings them in when it gets cooler out (we live in FL, so that's no big deal).

Is there anything else besides parakeets that you could suggest that would be ok living outdoors as long as it doesnt get too cold?

Advice appreciated. Thanks!

i had two parakeets, both blue, and 1year old each, and i just took in another parakeet from a neighbor who didnt know how to take care of it. the parakeet i added is yellow, female, and 4 years old. they're all just sitting there, only moving for food, and staring at each other, and even though i have two food bowls, the blue ones are teaming up on the yellow one. i afraid that if i leave them overnight, they'll fight or kill each other. i don't have a second cage, i need help asap!!

thanks,
a concerned budgie owner

I saw white pigeon at the local pet store, it is very beautiful but not tame at all, I opened the cage and try touching it, I didn't even touched it but It move around like crazy, so I stopped trying and close the cage back, I really want to buy it but it isn't tame at all, if it happen that I bought it, will it be tamed if I kept on playing and interacting with it?

Or it will stay wild forever?

I have one dutch blue lovebird who I am 98% sure is male. I've had him for almost 3 years now. He needs more attention than I can give him and am considering buying him a mate.
Questions:
If I buy a second bird does it have to be a female?
(I don't want to breed either lovebird)
Does it have to be the same type of lovebird he is?
Does it have to be around the same age?

I saw a Black Masked lovebird at a petshop who is smaller and younger than my Dutch Blue, I'm worried that if I bring that bird home and my original bird hates him I'm going to be stuck with 2 birds that I can't spend enough time with or worse, a dead bird.

Thank you and I will choose a Best Answer.

After the female was dead, we discovered him pecking her on the chest and actually eating her. I have never heard of anything like this happening.

My friend works at a medical facility, and the front picture window has a ledge over it, and the picture is by the entrance. Needless to say, the pigeons are a nuisance for the patients as the pigeons are coming and going, not to mention the bird poop.

Does anyone know of a humane way to make the pigeons roost elsewhere?

I've had murphy, a cute little yellow budgie for about a week and a half. He is still very skiddish and doesn't like to be touched or held but I have been working with him and talking to him every day. This morning when I took the blanket off of his cage to say good morning, he was scratching at his eyes, his nose is running, his face looked really manged and dirty, and he was rubbing his beak quite a bit. He's still eating, but he looks upset and he's not singing...he's "acking." What's wrong with him?

My concern is that I've heard some people say that they carry very bad diseases and others have said they don't. could someone please tell me if I have anything to be concerned about....should I get rid of the bird, or are there safety measures I should take. We always sanitize our hands after we hold it, and I try to keep my child away from the cage as much as possibe. PLEASE HELP ME! LOL....thank you!!

I need large bags on a regular basis of:

Budgie seed, Parrot Mix, Canary, Finch, Groats Sunflower.
Also, Iodine blocks, cuttlefish bones, millet sprays, EMP, and woodpine cat litter.

I pay out a small fortune for these items for my rescue centre and I would like to be able to get this stuff at a better price. Can you help please?

What kind of bird has a black head and throat, with a white or grey ring around it's neck with a grey chest, body and wings? It's smaller than a robin, but bigger than a sparrow, with a seed eating beak. We've seen it twice here in Charlotte, NC, but even the woman at the bird store can't identify it.

I have been considering purchasing a cockatoo, cockatiel, parrot, or macaw. I know very little about them. Please give me your recommendations as for which bird would be best for a beginner. I also need to know price ranges, availabilty in Georgia, and good and bad points. I'm also interested in adopting an abused or abandoned bird. Does anyone know if there is a shelter for these birds anywhere in the middle Georgia area? I would truly prefer giving a good, loving home to one of these birds. Even though I don't know much about them I am willing to work hard learning and taking care of my pet. It is not so much a matter of money as it is that I would prefer to put most of my money into making sure my bird has everything he/she will need and a few luxuries as well, not to mention good vet care. I will very much appreciate any suggestions anyone may have. BTW, when I was much younger I had a parakeet I kept for many years. His name was BJ and he was truly a joy.

I would like to breed my two parakeets. But there are so many places to find the info that I am over whelmed! So, could someone just tell me some of the essential items (maybe other etra) items required to breed parakeets. That would be very helpful. And no spam answers please.
