I have a female cockatiel that puts her head all the way back to her back and shakes it around?

What is wrong with her?? She does her head fast like stevie wonder does when hes playing piano. She does this ALL the time.

Cockatiels have idiosyncracies that no other breed has. I would suggest getting a book written about cockatiels and see whether what your bird does is something cockatiels do. For instance, they'll hang upside down and spread their wings. This is a display of territory. Or they'll bow their heads and swing up again when spoken to or when greeting another bird. Or they'll find something hard and just pound on it with their beaks. A lot of other behaviors that may seem odd but are normal for them just because they're cockatiels (one of mine loves to be kissed but both of them demand to have their heads scratched and will peck at me until I do so). As long as your bird isn't choking, having runny eyes or nostrils, and seems healthy in all other respects, I wouldn't worry about it.

I am a Parrot owner.Dont worry your bird is only preening and the reason why birds do that is because they have oil glands over certain parts of their bodys and she uses her head to transfer oil to those parts of her body. I would also recomend that you rub her neck because birds can not reach that area very well and it will be interpreted as preening by your bird. You have nothing to worry about

It would depend on many factors is you bird out regularly if is it then she found a way to entertain its self or it may be play full and likes to shake its head.

Check her neck for pin feathers, she might be really itchy.
