Larger birds like macaws go through what we would consider puberty at about 4-6 years of age. At this age they may exhibit uncharacteristic behavior due to hormones during breeding season. These behavior can include moodiness, excessive screaming, biting, and lack of appetite. This behavior can last up to a few months and is usually seen in a macaw from Nov-Mar. You will start to notice these changes in your bird about the same time each year and in my experience is worse in males than in females. But if you have a macaw consider yourself lucky as nothing is worse than a hormonal Cockatoo. Of course, your bird may just have been in a bad mood when she bit you. If her moodiness lasts for a couple of months, then she may be experiencing her first dose of hormones.

If she gets very loud, agitated or continues to bite she is most likely going through puberty...Otherwise she was probably just angry at something at the moment. Remember that birds are very sensitive to change.
