My apartment has placed those white balls used in men's urinals on the gaps between the balconies to deter pigeons from nesting.

I just saw two pigeons outside slapping each other with there wings. I have never seen them do this before, it was almost like they where playing. One would line himself up and then wack the other with his wing and then the other one would do the same thing back. Is this some weird mating ritual?

I just bought a cockatiel cage that's 18x18, and very tall. It came with 4 plastic perches, but I bought 2 wooden fatter perches because I know that they need different sized perches. They're too short to go straight across the cage, so I put the 2 wooden ones diagonally in 2 different parts of the cage, and put 2 plastic ones straight across, in 2 different areas of the cage. I also put a swing at the top, and 2 different bird toys. is 4 perches in an 18x18 cage over kill? I tried to space them so that my future cockatiel can stretch its wings on each perch, and I tried to space them so that my bird can use the entire cage, but I dont want to over do it.

(what can I say...I'm trying to feng shui my bird cage)

Theres a pet store near me that's been going down hill for years now (the owner has obviously lost interest in it). I went in there to see if they had any good deals on bird cages because I'm going to be getting a cockatiel soon. I decided that since I was in there I'd look at the cockatiels, and I found them in less then satisfactory conditions. The one I was interested in was in a dirty cage, and what was left of his tail feathers (which wasnt much at all) were bent and mangled. The cages are behind a glass door so I couldnt really interact with them, but I bent down and put my finger on the glass and he came over to check me out. He seemed interested, and only slightly cautious of me. I feel so bad for him, and since I was going to get one anyway, I was wondering, should I buy him, and save him from his bad conditions, or should I go to a breeder? I dont know much about cockatiels (Im reading up before I buy one, dont worry), so I dont know if thats a sign of sickness or not.

I have a mixed assortment of ducklings. We have kept them inside waiting for warm weather. They are fed and watered regularly and are allow to swim often. They have done well for several weeks but in the last 3 days 4 have died. 3 found dead in the morning or afternoon when we go to refresh the water and one after swimming on the pond on a warm day. The ones that have died did show signs of being a little wobbly shortly prior to expiring. Any ideas what is causing this? What can I do to save the other duckings? How warm does it have to be before I can put them out on the pond full time?

I have five cockatiels after I got finished purchasing my latest two companions, Switch and Angel. They're great. One sings opera and the other is very friendly, but they have this thing where they keep pooping in the water dish! I don't mean on accident, like a poop just happens to "fall in" but they'll sleep on the water dishes, preen themselves on the water dishes and guess where their poop goes... In the other 3 birds drinking water. Before you ask, the cage is 5 foot x 3 foot x 2.5 foot and they have PLENTY of perches, and they are not getting picked on. It takes them less than an hour to turn a perfectly clean cup of water into something that resembles the green slime from Double Dare. I feel stupid saying this, but do they like drinking their own poop water? Do they make some type of coop cup that has a covered top? Or is this scenario just completely unusual? Any help is greatly appreciated.

My mother inlaw has had a lovely robin pecking at her window for three days and counting. Is there an old wives tale about this out there?

Jokingly, we wonder if that we knew Morse Code if it were trying to tell us something.

Tony is around 2 years old and latly he has been mean. He will bend his head down for you to pet him and then try to bite you and he will squeeze you hand as hard as he can with his claws when we get him out of his cage. And sometimes he will throw up. He has never acted like this until recently. Its like he is not the same bird, but i don't think he is sick because he acts normal when he plays and swings from his toys. Tony only seems different when he is in contact with people.

I've been told a thermometor used for checking body temperatures isn't the best thermometor to use for an incubator. I found a thermometor used for checking room temperatures, would this work for a homemade incubator?

I only want to know cuase I'm planning on trying to hatch a pigeon from a friend I DON'T have an egg right now. I live in Nevada my room is pretty warm right now even though I have my ionic breeze and regualr fan running, I also have the window open.

(No jokes or wisecracks please)

I don't want anything to happen to this egg when I finally get it!

I DID my research on temps & hand feeding for almost a year now.

One day he just flew in to our backyard and just decide to make it home. We stop feeding it for months now and he still wants to stay. He has a tag around one of his legs and I don't know if it has any special meaning. I'm desperate to get him out of my house because I'm tired of him crapping all over the patio and I have to wash it down every other week.
