One day he just flew in to our backyard and just decide to make it home. We stop feeding it for months now and he still wants to stay. He has a tag around one of his legs and I don't know if it has any special meaning. I'm desperate to get him out of my house because I'm tired of him crapping all over the patio and I have to wash it down every other week.

Catch the pigeon.
Read his tag and you will be able to locate his owner.
Please ignore anyone that suggests harming this animal. After all you are the one who made him feel welcome, and hosing down his area is really not the hardest job in the world.
.
Get this bird back to his real home.
Contact the US Racing Pigeon club below after you read his tag. They will get you in touch with his owner.

Well after a year, doubt there's anything you can do to make him leave now, he's settled in & called your place ..HOME, short of killing the pigeon, trying to move him won't work, he will find his way back...am surprised you only have one, usually where one calls home so do alot of others...if you can get to him, his tag will have a number, that can be traced to an owner, organization or club ... am unsure how you do that, maybe a pigeon club or vet can tell you how... some pigeons are prized by their owners, tho this one owns you, not the other way around, LOL !! Peace & TC :)

If you can read the band then you can get him back to his owner.

If you're in the states, you can go to the American Racing Pigeon Union website at: http://www.pigeon.org and check their bandlist.

You can also check the I.F. Pigeon club band list at: http://www.ifpigeon.com

Since you don't describe anything "unusual" about the pigeon, I'm going to assume it's not a fancy bird like some of the tumblers or pouters. It's most likely a lost race bird or maybe even a Birmingham roller (they somersault in the air) Have you ever seen this bird do anything like that?

That tag is an ID number, if you can get the bird and read the number the local pigeon club can tell you who it belongs to. If you can't read it contact the local club any way, some one mite know who lost it, or they just mite want it themselves. The area Vet should know were the local pigeon people are.

The tag probably means he came from a collection, and because he is so used to human contact and being reared by humans he wants to stay where he expects a food source from a human
hes been conditioned. U could try scaring it away.

Get a cat, a fake owl, maybe it was once a pet, thats why it has a tag on. Try to catch it and take it somewhere far away from your house.

You could try hosing him down. Everytime you clean your patio, turn the hose on him too, he might get annoyed enough to leave.

the thing around its leg is a way of its owner knowing its his and as far as getting it to go away try waiting for it to leave and move it`s nest

I have read that WD40 works. I had the same problem so I sprayed some WD on my balcony railing and they never came back. Hope it works!
