once you touch the eggs and go near the nest the mother won't return. you should have left that egg alone. it wasn't hurting anything.

You should put the nest back in the tree, at least within twenty feet of where it originally was. Put the egg back in the nest. and if the mother bird is still around, she will return to the nest and she will incubate the egg. Birds have a poor sense of smell and it is not true that once you touch the egg the mother will not have anything else to do with it. Their sense of smell is so poor that she will never even know that you've handled the egg. Best of luck!

Did you look around to see if there are birds in the trees. I found a baby Grackel that had fallen out of his nest. Everyone says that once you touch it, the birds won't touch it anymore. As I looked around there were lots and lots of Grackels watching us. I climbed up and put the bird on a limb bv the nest. It ran over and hopped in the nest and the mother returned immediately. It was amazing to see these birds all around trying to protect the little one. Luckily he was older and the fall didn't seem to have hurt him. If you can put it back in the nest, I would do so. Incubating an egg is difficult and I'm not sure what you would need to do. Nice of you to care.

Listen to J. Smith's answer. The myth of a bird's sense of smell is false.
Place the nest as close as possible to where it may have fallen from. Watch to see if the mother or father return.
To see if an egg is fertile, hold it against a bright, focused light. If it appears as one general orange glow, then chances are, it's not fertile. If there's an odd shaped shadow of any type, it might be a fertile egg.
If you live in the US, just be warned that most species of birds fall under protected species status. This means it's illegal to own them or any part of them (feathers, nests, etc.) without a rehabber's license.
Contact your local wildlife rehabber for more help.

The best thing to do would be to call your local enviromental controll center ( try looking it up in the phone book)
untill then you should heep the egg warm. Put the egg in a small box or container. Line it with blankets and put a few cloths over the egg.
Unfortunatly the egg might be dead, or it will die after it hatches because it dosent have its mother to feed it. Good luck!

you could desire to call the animal people to return out, or in basic terms depart it somewhat is. i in my view might depart it on my own and make contact with a professional individual who deals with this, like animal rescue or something. i does no longer propose you progression the nest, if the mummy comes lower back and the nest is long gone it may desire to be traumatizing.
