Male budgies or parakeets are more likely to talk but you can try to get yours to. Cover the cage and turn off all external noises such as the tv, radio etc. Sit next to the cage and repeat the word or phrase you want the bird to say. You have to do this about 3 times a day for at least ten minutes. Good luck...some birds are better talkers than others.

First answer is correct. The males talk better for some reason. It kinda funny as women seem to talk more than us guys, so you would think the Female be a better talker. :-p
But, as stated just keep using the same word. Also, listen to her, she may talk best she can and you not realize she is mocking you. I had a male named Floyd and he was a good talker. At first I not know, but, one day he was in the window on a glass rim sticking his head into the glass. He was having a good time. I listened and realized he was saying; Floyd, Hello, Kiss and my name.
I add this; Think of a baby learning to talk. The Parents know the words they say and when pointed out to others everyone hear what the baby saying. Hope you understand.

repeat the word over and over again every day. Keep the bird seperate from other birds the reason parakeets talk is that they are bonding to others in the flock if you are the only one around, the flock is you so they mimick. Try to keep it to one word or phrase at a time at first, and speak slowly and clearly. Once your bird has learned a word or phrase, he/she will begin to pick up more and more. Males are generally better talkers than females.
