I've had murphy, a cute little yellow budgie for about a week and a half. He is still very skiddish and doesn't like to be touched or held but I have been working with him and talking to him every day. This morning when I took the blanket off of his cage to say good morning, he was scratching at his eyes, his nose is running, his face looked really manged and dirty, and he was rubbing his beak quite a bit. He's still eating, but he looks upset and he's not singing...he's "acking." What's wrong with him?

Well, I just thought I'd let you all know that I took Murphy to the vet yesterday, but he died while they were trying to find what was wrong with him. They concluded that he had a cold and was so stressed out (because he hates people) and all the attention he was getting from the people at the vet's office scared him "to death." It's unfortunate, but we got a replacement baby bird anyways. It's white with little blue patches....we named it Schuylar. We're sad that Murphy has left us, but it's going to be ok because we now have baby Schuylar.

Only a vet can tell you what is going on inside of that little birdies body. Bring it to the vets!!!! Or at least call the vet and see if its worth bringing it in.

Take your bird to an avian vet ASAP. It sounds like a respitory infection, but you will need a professional diagnosis and treatment.

Do not try to treat it yourself!
