This is a first for me. In my 30 plus years of owning birds, I have never heard of a situation like this. I have to agree with what one of the above posters saidl You NEVER remove the male at any time during the breeding process. The male MUST assist the female or those eggs will never hatch. He does the following:
1. He brings food (through regurgitation) to the female while she is on the eggs.
2. He allows the female to leave the "nest" breeding box to relieve (poo) if she decides to do so. And he will sit on the eggs or at least guard them.
3. He assists in maintaining the breeding box....bringing more material if there is any available.
Obviously, the male you have is really evil, nuts, or both, DON'T allow him to breed again because the same result will mush likely be the case.
At the same time, to the person who said give him away and convert him to a pet, that is not a likely to happen because birds that were breeders, typicaly do not become good pets. Just put him in a cage with another male that he gets a long with. Or let him be in a cage by himself, with plenty of toys. Parrots/parkeets, do not have to have another bird in their cage.

I have bred budgies for 10 yeras and have never seen that behavior.
Birds may fight over nesting spots or a preferred space in the aviary but its usually a little fight and is over when one bird moves away.
I would get rid of the male if you are breeding them. Sell it as a pet .
If put in a cage with nest box , the pair will usually mate and the male helps feed the mother and chicks. He may sit on the eggs at times so the mother can eat and drink.
He can get a bit aggressive if you leave the chicks long enough and the pair starts to lay another clutch of eggs. He will chase out any of the chicks from the first clutch and keeps them away from the nest.

I had that happend to my breeding couple once.Your male didn't kill the female though, she most likely died for some other reason perhaps an egg binding. But once the male realized she was dead he destroyed the eggs.Another thing in the wild parakeets feed on dead animals and birds ,kinda like vultures. That's not abnormal. That's why you saw him pecking on her body.I m really sorry about your birdy.

your male parakeet is crazy, get rid of it! trade it with a new pair, i feel bad for your female parakeet.
By the way why dont you remove the female parakeet and bury it as soon as it died, why do you leave it there and let that crazy male parakeet peck on it?

YOU SHOULD NEVER TAKE THE MALE OUT OF THE CAGE AFTER EGGS ARE LAYED!!!! the female needs him to feed her wile she is incubating the eggs. if you take the male out, she will either starve to death, or leave the nest to eat, and the eggs will get cold and won't hatch. In my 3 years of breeding, i have never encountered anything like this. i would not try to breed this male again. if you want eggs, buy a whole new pair. so sorry your female died. good luck if you continue!

When your parakeets mate and have eggs that is when you are soppose to take the male out of her cage. Alot of birds do this! I am sorry that your female parakeet is dead! If you decide to get a new one just make sure that after they mate and there are eggs to put him in a different cage!
