I'm thinking of hand raising a pigeon, I've already got some of the basic supplies:

eye dropper

ajustable desk lamp (for heat)

rag towels

(I'll add on to it)

I also know of some sites with info on hand raising.

I've heard most pigeons who are hand raised are fed kaytee exact. Does anyone know of a substitue when you don't have kaytee?

Got any ideas?

Would like advice, thanks!

I'm willing to care for this bird. I DON'T have it or an egg right now. But I'm planning on getting it later this year from a friend.

He knows step up, and sometimes he'll do it and sometimes he'll fluf up and peck at me...
He'll also sulk for about an hour after I handle the other dove, whom he loves very much.
He sometimes likes to be petted, and sometimes would rather just sit there...

If a rooster laid an egg on the ridge of a barn facing west in the northern hemisphere, would the egg roll down the north or south side of the barn?

My birds just had two babys and they're about two months old now. I've had birds for seven years and I was always able to tell their genders by their uh.. special spots. I remember that if the bones or whatever were together, its a boy and if its apart, they're a girl. But the girl sounded like she was singing a little today. so I started wondering if maybe I got it mixed up.
Which one is it?

I have cockatiels and my male and female have been constantly breeding. I'm putting a nest box in today. Can you feel the eggs if you feel her tummy or is this dangerous to do? How soon after a successful breeding, will she lay eggs? And does the presence of a nest box make them breed more? They have been breeding like this for a couple of monthts now and she hasn't laid eggs but I haven't had a nest box in there. They are both around 2 yrs. old so I think they are both able to breed, right?

Everyday my parakeets put their seed in their water. I am pretty sure they are eating but I don't know if this is normal or not.

It hasn't caused any discomfort. But it only appeared over the last couple of weeks. There is no redness or inflamation, but it is a definate hole. Kind of looks like a 3rd nostril. Hopeing that someone may have seen something like this before.

My mom smokes and I keep telling her to stop because it can kill our parrots. They are all in the living room and one is in the master bedroom. She lights cigarettes in the kitchen and walks through the house smoking. I keep telling her to stop, that she is killing them, what are some side effects of parrots living in this kind of environment? Enlarged heart and compressed lungs is one of them, right?
