I am watching the birds on my patio eat the seeds I put out for them and I notice that they walk and hop all over the snow and do not seem at all bothered. They don't seem to feel the cold at all on their feet. I wonder why that is.

I have three Silkie hens that I got when they were just days old. They are clutch-mates and are now about 6 months old. Two stayed with me for the full 6 months and on went to live with our neighbour for about 2 months. She was returned to me about 5 weeks ago and since then I have tried everything to make just one of my hens accept her back. This one hen hunts the "new arrival" to the point where...to this day I have to keep them penned seperately. She gets along famously with the other.
They are let out to free range which works a little better because the "hunted one" has more room to run for her life but I would really like to make this threesome work in the same enclosure.
Does anyone have any wise advise or tricks I may not have tried yet?

I have observed that some birds eg the sparrow and White Crested Laughing Thrush (http://www.klein.com/dvk/photos/birds/white_crested_laughing_thrush.jpg) move around on the ground by hopping on two legs, while others, like most crows, doves, mynahs and chickens, walk. Why is this so?

I have a few questions. Firstly, how long is it alright for them to be by themselves for? And I mean rarely- normally they will have attention, but I'm thinking of the future if I'm away for a few days. If I'd be away for 1 or 2 days, is simply making sure there is a lot of water and food in the cage ok? Will they be fine with no interaction for that time period? When does it go from leaving some food and water to needing to give it to someone to care for? I'd guess 2-3 days?

Now if I had to leave for let's say a week, and there's no friends or family that could care for it, what are my other options? Are there any services that will watch a bird for you? Or what else can you do?

I was wondering if anyone knew the meaning of giving a Bird (Parakeet) as a gift to someone. I am under the impression that it is to send a message to someone. As Birds were used to send messages. Any Ideas?

He's been doing it for a couple of weeks, and I think it may be stress related, how do I calm him, or stop him from plucking his beautiful feathers?

I have loved macaws since I was a little girl. I'm 20 now, and getting ready to get married and move to Boston. I would eventually like to buy a macaw, but I was wondering exactly what I'll need for taking care of the bird. How big would the cage be, will I need to wait until I live in a house vs. an apartment, what do I feed it, does it need exercise, etc.

I just rescused a lovebird and I put him in my parakeets old cage, which is somewhat small for him. He needs a bigger cage. I do not know much about lovebirds or what type of cage is the best for them.
