I was wondering if anyone knew the meaning of giving a Bird (Parakeet) as a gift to someone. I am under the impression that it is to send a message to someone. As Birds were used to send messages. Any Ideas?

Well, A few things, one someone didnt give me the bird. lol. More so I sent it as a gift to someone else.

Why did I send it? Well I knew that birds were used in the past to send messages over great distances. In my case I sent it to send a message of love. To someone that I care about a great deal. And to ask for forgiveness. And I know that she is a caring and nurturing person, and that she wont hurt the bird. I was just wondering if there were any other meanings out there, as I have been googling my tail off, and haven't found anything solid yet.

I like that idea. Too bad I couldn't find doves. I hope she appreciates the bird. :)

As far as I know, it doesn't mean anything except they thought you might like one. If you really want to know, ask the person that gave you the bird.

Also, if you didn't get a book on parakeets/budgies, please make sure that you get one and read it. Birds need toys, interaction, proper food, and care. Please do your homework.

But birds have a place in the culture of Indonesia too. The national symbol is a bird called a garuda, a mythical bird which appears on the country's coat of arms and gives its name to the state airline.

On the island of Java, turtledoves are traditionally seen as giving completeness to human life, and are often seen or heard through the windows of family houses.

According to Dr Laksono, doves in particular have a symbolic significance which follows people through their lives.
In Indonesia, birds symbolize the completeness of life.
Grandparents will often give doves to their grandchildren on their birthdays. The birds' image appears on wedding invitations. And 1,000 days after the death of a family member, a pair of doves can be released to signal the flight of his or her spirit from the world. A gift of life is always special.

hi, you'll see that Ive answered way too many in this section tonight, lol, but this is easy. I totally agree with the answer by your first replier. No hidden meaning i know of, and just ask the person, maybe they thought you were lonely. Maybe they thought youd give it a good home. but most importantly.. PLEASE do get a book on their needs and care and read it, and join some online bird groups, they are free and a wealth of information. If you keep it. I hope so, if you can. Its hard on them to go home to home, they are not like dogs. but if you have cats, please think of rehoming it at a reso9nsible rescue.. not the pound. a bird specialty rescue. They can be great little pets and very intelligent. Take care!

The impression that you are under is correct. When you give a bird as a gift, this is a symbol of love and free spirited life (although the true symbol of love is the White Turtle Dove).
It is a very nice gesture that you gave someone a parakeet to send your message of love.
Hopefully this gesture will work in your favor.
