Your parakeet should see a veterinarian as soon as possible. Check online or in the phone book to see if you can find a local vet with bird experience. Your bird could likely have an eye infection, and if the eye is "smushy" as you say, she could end up losing her eye or risk the infection spreading. A bird that is lethargic (sleepy) is a really sick bird... they hide illness until they absolutely cannot any longer, because in the wild sick birds get picked off first.

Why are you on here asking us instead of contacting the vet right away? Your bird obviously needs medical attention so take it there NOW! Book an appointment as soon as you can. Birds can mask illness and injury very well and if yours is looking sick then it's not a good sign at all. It's obvious there is something wrong, you don't need us to tell you that. Take your bird to the vet!

Agreed-- get it to an avian vet... most regular vets dont have that much bird experience... ask pet stores which is the best avian vet in the area if you need to, but at least get it to some vet.
The reason I say this is: First, you said she is sleeping alot and not playing much. Ok, you need to know that with birds, it is part of their makeup to try to hide any illness, as it make them a target for prey. usually they are so good at it they will die within a short time by the time a human notices it. Also, the eye.. that's serious, and whenever you birdsit... never, ever, -- for future use-- put someone else's with your own. You dont know if they have had theirs tested for the regular diseases that an annual avian vet will do. Once an ok bill of health is given, you are usually ok as long as they arent out around other birds who could invect them. This sounds like at the least an infection. Keep all birds that are not yours separated in another room, wash hands in between caring for them. But given that her actions are fading, get her to a vet asap. try to find an avian one, search online, but ask around to some places that sell birds nearby too. they will know who to use. But better any small animal vet than none at all!! Yes, also put the towel at bottom for now, as the way she is acting, she could easily fall. Please act fast, and never think all birds will get along. Ive seen them gang up and actually kill another at a boarding facility. She depends on you, only you can save her by swift action. And if you cant, then at least you tried. My best hopes for you both!!

Get your bird into a Certified Avian Vet ASAP or sooner. It sounds like the other birds have pecked at her eye ans it's dying off. If she's not eating/drinking/playing, this is a sign that there is a SERIOUS problem, and if left unattended this condition could be fatal.

Please take your Parakeet to the vet immediately if you want to save her life! She is displaying the signs of an ill bird, and could have an infection in the eye. It's not worth taking that chance!
My parrot got attacked by a stray cat a few years ago, and was bleeding on his neck. I rushed him 20 miles to the nearest 24 hour exotic animal vet in my area. They saved his life! They put him in an incubator to warm him, and kept him overnight for observation. He didn't need stitches. I was very lucky!
It cost me $300.00, which was very reasonable considering all that they did. I would have paid $1,000--because I love my parrot.
Don't take any chances. Hopefully by the time you read this, your Parakeet will be well.
Good luck.

calm down its okay what you need to do is lower all of the perches and take out the toys put a pillow case or towel on the bottom of the cage for if it gets confused and falls
let it sleep it needs its feat put a towel over the cage so that no one scares your bird. keep the food and water fresh.
this sound like there was a fight and it ended up in and infection. call your vet and explain your concern then set up a time to bring her or him in.
good luck

Usually in every city their is one vet hospital that deals with exotic birds. Contact a store that sells them and they might be able to refer someone.
