Duck eggs are fertilized in the spring during mating season. The Male duck climbs on top of the female and they have sex. (This behavior is very obvious and noisy when it happens. Some ducks mate while swimming in the water and it looks like he's drowning her, but don't worry!) If you have only female ducks, they will still lay eggs, but the eggs will not hatch.

If there is a male duck and the female is sitting on the eggs, most likely they are fertile and developing fine. If you want to check, shine a bright light through the eggs at about 10 days old -- fertile eggs will have blood veins, etc. developing. Otherwise, just wait until they hatch! (which, for ducks, is at about 4 weeks.)
