I am hand feeding him. He is 5 weeks old. I have a blue and gold macaw that is 1 yr old and I hold him several times daily.

There is no reason why you can't be holding the baby. Handfed Baby Parrots need a lot of nuturing and cuddling. I always held mine with a baby blankey wrapped around them so they would stay warm and I could hold them for longer times.

Best to hold and play with him as much as possible. I too have a hand fed baby grey he's now 11 months old but soooooo sweet and friendly. Also have a blue and gold macaw same age also a double yellow nape Bella had her since a baby hand fed them all. I have a pair of minature parrots that are on a clutch now waiting for them to hatch. I just love my birds.

i would handle him as much as you could. my love bird is out of the cage whenever i am home. I wouldnt want to be stuck in a cage all day and neither do they. The more you handle them now the better natured they are going to be. Hope that helps!!

Its best to start holding baby birds early so they don't grow apart from you and get territorial. You need to have your hands in his cage so he doesn't get overly protective of things and you should start holding him now so he is comfortable around you and feels safe.

Yes, start handling it right away. The bird will get used to you and be more tame as time goes on.

i have Grey's also and i believe the more you hold them the less timid they will be. if there is anyone else in your house hold they also need to handle the Grey, this way he will not mind anyone else handling him in the future. my Grey's will not allow anyone in my family to touch them but me and this really does cause problems for my Grey's and me.
