It is possible the cat ate your bird. Cats are natural preditors and have been known to attack other domesticated animals, even ones that they have been around for years, and confuse them for prey.
Always need to be careful with birds, hamsters, gerbils, and sometimes small kittens and puppies.

My question is how did an 11 yr old have the fortitude to go get the food and try to feed the cat and investagate the room and find no bird and get online log in and type that question in the 4 minutes ago the cat was playing with the bird...(cough cough...bullshit..cough cough)
And the fact that there are actual people answering this question as if it's for one second real...proves there are far more morons in this world then I first suspected...stop screwing your cusins folks...let the gene pool broaden abit.

Was the cage door open?
If not. Your bird was a phoenix and it expired. It should start regrowing any minute. (See Harry Potter books to understand).
If the door WAS open. Put your ear next to the cat's stomach. Hear any chirping?
If no chirping, then one of two things has happened. The bird escaped to glorious freedom, leaving a few feathers behind, thanks to the cat's murderous attempts... OR, your bird is dead.

Was the cage door open? What kind of bird do you have? If you have a small bird like a budgie/parakeet, then there may be a changed it's crossed over the rainbow bridge.

Check the cats mouth if there are feathers or blood in her mouth your cat ate him. If you are aloud to get a new bird don`t let cats come near it or the same thing will happen
Good luck!

Did you look all over the house? What kind of bird is it? Just stay calm and look for your bird. Does your cat have any signs of the bird being in it's mouth?

why would you have a bird AND a cat? Baaddd idea. I would defenitly say that your cat ate the bird. maybe get him X-rayed to prove it. if nothing shows up, maybe he just flew away somewhere in your house and will soonly return. Plus, i have a cat who dosen't always eat. it's completly normal. There just wise and they would get to the food later. If your cat ate the bird, sorry for your loss.

Sorry to say but birdy went to bird heaven, or he's on the fan check there, mine likes to go there when he's had a attempt on his life, he knows Kitty, my cat, won't get to him, and I'll soon return him to his cage safe and hole.
