My cockateil injured his foot and in order to keep a better eye on him during his time out (about four hours per day) I took him upstairs into the spare/workroom.When I Itried to get him back downstairs he refused by flying back up (we are open plan). At the same time he had found an empty packing box on top of the wardrobe with a few old papers. Now he screams to come out the second he hears I am up at 5am goes into the box and spend s most of the day there except for the odd chat and to feed and water. Why?

This bird(s) seems to just single out my car to land on, my car is parked next to some trees but i have no where else for it to go. Also cleaning my car is a waste of time as the bird is back with in a day.

It's just my wife and I at home. She claims she is allergic so I may have to keep him/her in the garage so she has limited exposure. We have no other pets. He/she will not have much human interaction during the day but I would like a bird that does not "attach" itself to only one family member. NO, I DO NOT WANT A COCKATEIL............Thanks for your advice......I want to make an informed decision

my finches nest is pretty small (I made it out of a milk carton like you get in school) there are currently 5 eggs, I will have to wait and see if they have anymore, it was crowded after the 4th egg and will be really crowded as the babies grow, should I remove a couple of the eggs to give them more room or will the parents do that?

I have had my birds for approximately 2 going on 3 years , and I have never pick my birds up from day one. I purchase them, and my husband put them in the cage, and that's where they been ever since. My question thou is .How can I get one of them too come out of the cage, and be able to hold them without them being scared. What I have recently done a month ago was have there wings clip so that they can not fly so that I would be able too pick them up, and they wouldn't break their wings. However, my husband told me I shouldn't have done that , because some apparent reason that would not be good for there health Could some one please help me.

Has anyone ever seen a cockatiel with green feathers?

I have a book " A birdkeepers guide to breeding birds" by David Alderton. Published by salamander books in 1988. and on page 99, it shows a pair of cockatiels with green cheek patches instead of the orange. I have never seen any like it.

Is there a mutation in any country similar?

We find that Birds travel from Country to Country everyyear and get back to their home land after spending time in cooler climates. How do they get back home? Do they have any specific Navigational modes? How will they travel during the day and also during the night?

rescued a parakeet and was told it is a Brounts parakeet(?)Has a bright sunset coral-colored chest fading to powder blue under tail with blue-gray wings and gray and white head, face. He is depressed and lost tail feathers(said it was in too small of a cage) lost all but one toe on each foot and had wings clipped VERY short.Wont move about or eat treats or play-does eat and drink and occasionally chirp-not tame.Would another parakeet in same cage help it adjust and learn activity behaviors? What kind of parakeet is best to add;does it matter?Appears physically healthy tho;just insecure and depressed.Dont know exact age-is mature male.HELP!! What kind and how do I help it? Obviously I am new to birds but want to offer this one a better life.

A wild bird has come down my sister's chimney. It is a big, black bird. Right now he is sitting on her bookshelf and hasn't moved since he came. That was about 2and a half hours ago. She opened the doors and windows but the bird won't budge. It must have a nest up the chimney. She has put out bread and water for it.
What should she do? The poor thing is obviously terrified at being in an alien environment. Any help would be appreciated.

if i take a bite out of them first. If i try to give him anything else he usually doesn't even take it but if he even takes it from my hand he will just throw it on the floor. Does anybody have any ideas for me? Maybe some food that they are known to like? Or a method i could use?
