For fun. Budgies (commonly called parakeets) are funny little creatures, amazingly intelligent, and they make up games to play. Yours apparently enjoys playing by hanging upside down.

There are many kinds of parakeets. The common pet store variety are actually called Budgerigar, or budgie for short. They come in a wide array of colors and are among the best talkers in the parrot world. Some say as many as 500 words, but you have to listen carefully because their speaking voices may be quiet. Not all budgies learn to talk, but the best way to get yours to talk is to simply talk to her a lot. They will pick up things from their environments (such as hello? when you answer the phone) but they will also sometimes learn to say things you say over and over to them.

Have fun with your little friend. They're amazing little birds- people don't give them nearly enough credit!

I took in an abandoned tiel that does this. She previously lived in the same cage with 2 keets. It took 2 clutches for me to realize something. When I am home and she does this I go towards the cage and she stops. Finally I (the first few times I had to pick her up now she know the step up command) brought her out of the cage, seems to me if she does the butt up in the air thing she got attention from her previous roommates, (keets) now she gets attention from me and stops. She is on her 3rd clutch, but had stopped after only 2 eggs this time. I think she will be fine, bring her out of the cage. When you see it try to distract her and bring her out of the cage for a bit . She is planning (with no mate) to lay eggs which will deplete her of needed vitamins.
