Go to a pet store.

It is best to visit a friend that has parrots. Going to a pet store is good. But a home is better as bird dander will be in the air more so in a home.

When you buy the bird ask about their return policy and how long do you have.

do your research on exotic birds.certain birds produce a large amount of powder or dander.all cockatoos, cockatiels and afriacan grey parrots.try to get a couple of feathers for the paticlar bird you want from maybe the pet store or breeder.these birds usually lose feathers on the bottom of there cage almost every day.have your wife do a allergy test on her on the underside of her forearm as long as her other allergys are not severe.birds are costly and it is life long commitment, they have a very long life span so it may be worth spending the money and have her get tested by a allergist.getting exotic birds from a reputable buisness(check refrences) can be a absoulte joy! try to get a very young bird that has not already developed bad habaits ie;feather pulucking, biting or screaming.best of luck!

Allergy blood test - they can run down the whole line.
I had it done and found I was allergic to my dog.
Also found I was allergic to Cats, birds, (general) trees (listed by type) and other things I have forgetten as I did not have exposure to them.

Tell the Dr what you nned the test for to cut down the cost of unessacary lab work.

if she hasn`t had any reaction to poultry or feathers before, she probably wont in the future. tell her that wanting a pet and actually having one and the up keep are entirely different things. make sure that you have a contingency plan in effect for the time after the newness wears off and you decide that its time to rid yourselves of that creature before it ruins your lives and marria ge. get a bird with a $$$ back policy if you decide that you dont want it back later, what ever, dont return itto the wild except in its own lands.

Yeah, just have her contact her doctor and then go out looking for another pet if she is allergic. Common sense!
