does the number of eggs a finch lays depend on the size of the nest? like do they lay more eggs in a big nest then they would in a small nest?

The average they will lay is, as already said by a previous answerer, 3 to 5 eggs. The size of the nest has nothing to do with the number of eggs they will lay. If your finch has not layed before, than you should be hoping she doesn't have too many. They may not be able to handle it.

I think it is the same as with budgies, but it would be an idea to look this up before doing it, but at least when a budgie has too many chicks, it is a good idea a couple out to other budgies with less, and whose chicks are roughly the same age, IF you have others. I am reasonably sure it is the same with finches, but maybe check before going by it.

They will build there nest big enough for many eggs but generally only lay between 3-6 my finches build there own nests and arrange it big enough for the eggs they want to lay.

ok first things first. dont breed them!!! i have and they are an absolute pest. i cant get rid of them coz you cant catch them and i dont want to let them just fly away because they will all be killed and im not that heart less!!! they take up money and there cage stinks! i have mine in an aviary and it still smells because of the seed that they havent eaten. another thing they dont make good pets and always fly and make a distressed noise when you come within a metre. i started of with 2 and now about one or two years later i have at least 30. there have been alot more but some have died and others got out. another thing that costs you cash the worming, yes you do have to worm them. any way if you still want them then i would suggest to get a roomy but cosy nest. thats what we have. by roomy but cosy i mean so that the mum and the dad bird can both snuggle up on the eggs comfortably but no so big that the eggs get cold if they roll because then they will be comld and the mother wont be able to move it close again.
