I would like to breed my two parakeets. But there are so many places to find the info that I am over whelmed! So, could someone just tell me some of the essential items (maybe other etra) items required to breed parakeets. That would be very helpful. And no spam answers please.

1. A garentueed buyer/buyers for your birds.

2. Male and female birds of breeding age from unrelated bloodlines.

3. A good diet for the parents to be on for at least 6 weeks before setting them up for breeding.

4. A large cage with a nestbox attached to the outside.

5. Pine bedding inside the nestbox, at least 2 inches deep.

6. A good calcium source for the birds.

7. Proper instruction on how to handfeed just in case your birds don't feed the chicks. This will be best from a breeder or an avian vet. If done wrong, it can mean a horrible, painful death for your chicks.

8. A brooder to keep the chicks warm if the parents won't sit and keep them warm after hatching, or if you have to handfeed.

9. Good timing.

You will need to wait from that point for the birds to lay. You will need fresh food and water daily, at least 12 hours of daylight every day, and a bath for the hen to go into.

Have an avian vet on hand just in case your hen becomes eggbound. If this happens, professional treatment is necessary or she will die.

After the first clutch fledges, comes out of the nest, remove the nest box. This will prevent your birds from laying a second clutch and possibly tiring themselves out to the point of death. Let the chicks grow and wean. Tame them by handling them lots. That way people will be happy to have them.

If you keep any of the chicks, do not let them breed unless you bring in a mate from a completely different bloodline. DO NOT let them inbreed. This will cause genetic problems to show up.

Keep in mind, these are ONLY the basics. Go to the bookstore and buy a book on budgie breeding. It will help you more than posting on yahoo.

I think they'll pretty much take care of that themselves if you'll leave them together. Someone may have some advice on separating the male from the female and the eggs, I don't know if he will hinder the process once it gets that far along. But I do know they both know how to get things started :-)

A bird's nest or Breeding house that you can put in you're cage will help a lot, it kinda let's them know it's time to do that.
you can usually buy them at the pet store.

A cage, a nest and the parakeets will know what to do. That is if they are smitten to each other.

A male and a female. You have to make sure you are prepared to care for the babies, though.
