Okay I want to know your honest-to-god oppinions on this.. I had gotten two parakeets and one was mine and one was my kid brothers. After a while he got tierd of the untrained budgies (6 year olds can be like that) so We traded the blue parakeet for a finch with my neighbor, and I now have a finch and a keet in two seperate cages and I am continuing to train and work with the remaining budgie but I don't have as much time as I would like to, to train him/her (it's still a baby) it still is scared of me (after 1 month) and flys away but we're doing okay. It seems really lonely though. And, I mean.. the finch is great and all but what about the parakeet? He never really moves around and goes to his rinds or toys he has a huge compfy cage. He won't eat around me either and he is scared of music. He's gotten out 2-3 times as I was cleaning his cage and when I couldn't catch him I grabbed him from behind gently and put him back. He's only nipped at me once. But I deservied it. Ineed imput!

Don't listen to the people that say give it a mirror. That will just bring you farther away from it. It will fall in love with it's reflection and start nipping more. And if you ever want to take the mirror away, your bird will never ever shutup until you put it back.

get the keet one of those toys that has a mirror and a bell. keep working with it with the time you have. Some parakeets are really friendly, Some never fully get over their mistrust of humans. Parakeets dont really need companions, but finches do.

Horrible for what? Trading the birds? No. Grabbing him? No, but you might want to take him in for a wing clip, it might make the training go easier. I rarely clip my bird's wings and only do so when we travel to avoid losing one.
As for grabbing him, learn how to "towel" him until he's tamed.

If you're torn up over a bird that you aren't torturing then you obviously aren't horrible. You're good for feeling bad for the bird. Unless of course you are torturing the bird, then you would be horrible.
