you must not get just one. this is very important. ducks are very social creatures and must have at least one other duck around otherwise it will die from loneliness.
if you do not live in a place that has a large enough yard or enough land to support them, i wouldn't suggest it.
check with your city and look at the ordinances and see what they will allow. if they allow farm fowl, then it is ok to have them in the city you live in.
another thing. their waste tends to stink a little and may get you into some trouble with the neighbors. that is why you should check the city ordinances.
do not just get them because you think they are cute when they are young. they do grow up and you must be able to provide for them. do not just keep it a a pet when it is young and release it when it is old. it causes problems.
heres some care tips:
1. you must place it in something called a brooding box. it should be reletively tall and have enough room for them to run around. lay newspaper in the bottom and cover with wood chips. place feed and water in the corners of the box. the feed should be from your nearest farm supply store and the water should have vitamins added.
2. lay a peice of 2 By 4 over the top of the box. from this you MUST hang a light. it needs to be a heat lamp that will keep them warm as they are just babys. if they tend to huddle alot, then the light it is too high and can be lowered on a string until you soon see them playing in the water and running around. you can get this light at a pet store or a feed store.
3. their water and food must be changed out every day. they will get everything wet so beware. the wood chips should be partially changed every other day. once a week, change them alll out and lay down fresh newspaper.

Enjoy your lil ducklings. if you have any more questions, look at this site or email me.

are you getting ducks or ducklings?
don't get just one because it will die from loneliness, ducks have to be with other ducks.
