I have 2 parakeets One male one female. I recently got them. The male bird loves interacting with me and sits on my shoulder, my finger, and watches TV with me. The female wont even want to get out of the cage. She gets on my fingers but when she reaches the entrance of the cage she flies back into it. When she does come out, she avoids me and hides in dark areas. Why isnt she like the male?

Well, having raised parakeets before, I can tell you that the male parakeets are much better. I find they have a sweeter disposition. I NEVER have liked the female parakeets. If you want to keep her, I would suggest starting by just getting her on your finger. Once she does this, slowly move her to the front of the cage. Don't try to take her out of the cage at this time. Just talk to her, and try to move her a little more towards the front of the cage. If she gets scared and flies to the back, that is ok. Just try this over and over. Eventually, she'll get used to being closer and closer to the front of the cage and eventually out of the cage. If this doesn't work, you might want to get a treat and try to get her out of the cage. It takes time for birds to get used to things. Good luck.

You can inform the intercourse among a parakeet by way of the cere. The cere is the fleshy epidermis that involves the nostrils. A men' cere will probably be royal blue until this can be a lutino (all yellow) or albino parakeet. Then it might be purplish crimson. A feminine can have a tan/beige/faded whitish bluish cere. When they're in breeding situation they are going to have a fairly multiplied brown crusty cere. Hope I helped!

male parakeets are sometimes more social. i have a male and female but the male hates fingers while the female came on the finger since day one. just the personality i guess.
