Should i change half of his water into distilled water ? I used tap ..i got him in the morning. Hes the "quiet" type of fish, the other two companions have adhd ( :P ) and are are hyper lol. Im really concerned I hate to see him die, if you tap the wall exactly 6 times he goes up automatically!

Ok, I have had freshwater tanks successfully for the last 2 or 3 years, and have decided to make the jump to saltwater. I am not going to set this tank up for several months to make sure I plan well. To start, I am going to go extremely simple, and with an overly big tank to ease up on water changes and quality things. I am planning a 75 gallon FO tank, with a crushed coral and white sand bottom. I will have dead coral as the main decor. I think i will be going with mostly easy beginner fish like various clowns and damsels. My daughter likes the "Finding Nemo" theme, lol. I am going to have 3-4 powerheads, maybe a wavemaker, and a very high glp rating eheim canister. I was thinking with just keeping the flourescents that come with the tank, but is this ok for a FO set-up? I have not been planning to have a sump or protein skimmer, but would you suggest one? As you can tell, just in case i screw up, I dont want to have thousands of dollars invested into this tank, hence no LR or LS. Thx

I've bought about twenty females the other day and i think there might be the odd 1 or two short finned male in with them. i know you can't keep males together and yes you can keep females together or the one male in with females due to experience but i obviously know that the males shouldn't be together. so can any1 tell me how to tell the difference between a female and a short finned male betta? Is it the shape of the dorsal fin? sensible answers please thanks

Where I could buy a 29g aquarium? I already have a filter, air bubbler, and heater. I just need the glass tank with hood and light. Anyone know a good place to go and how much it should cost?(In united states)

*** And for a 29g, would it be overstocked with 3 australian rainbow fish, 8 corydoras catfish, 8 harliquin rasboras, and 5 black skirt tetras? Add anything? Take away anything?

***And is a 15g overcrowded with 2 golden danios, 2 guppies, 2 mollies, 2 platies, and 2 otocinclus?

THANKS!!!

My silver mollie appears to be VERY pregnant. For the past day and a half (at least) she's been hanging out on the bottom of the tank in a corner. Her belly is actually resting on the gravel. She wiggles a bit, like she's scratching her stomach, and waves her front fins. A couple of times I've noticed that her tail seems to curve a little to the side. Once in a while she swims around the tank or up to the top, then back down to her corner.

I have a well-established community tank and all other fish appear to be healthy. Is she just in labor (how long is labor for mollies?) or do I need to medicate her? If she's sick, what is it? Thanks!

The siphon tube that drains out the water of my aquarium is only about half the height of the aquarium. The filter is an external canister filter. Is this effective or should I extend the tubing to reach near the bottom of the tank?

I have one goldfish currently residing in a 10 gallon tank that he is outgrowing rapidly. I cycled this tank without fish and therefore there is no ammonia in it and has never been. I have bought a new 20 high tank for him and was going to fishless cycle that tank as well but was wondering if I needed to. If I keep the same rocks (plus about 10 more pounds of rock) with the same filter, filter media and decorations will this tank need to be cycled for will the tank remain cycled with the filter media and rocks to help it out?

It would then flare up and start swimming up and down the tank. Is this ok/healthy for the fish? If not, what should I do.

the goldfishes in our aquarium have been dying at least 2 per week. Most of them get caught up in the pump and their tails and fins get sucked and they're stuck there. I think the pump is too strong. What can i do to avoid their deaths aside from replacing the pump?

when i woke up this morning and turned on my aquarium light i saw a little mit of movment out of the corner of my eye. it took me a little while to find what it was but once i did, it was a baby fishy. the babies are all black so im assuming they came from my black mollies as they are my only black fish. i would like to try keeping them but i need advice. i have already moved them from my main tank with the other fish to a back up tank. the big thing is what do i feed them. there obviously to small for the blood wormsand frozon breine shrimp i feed the others. will flake food be good or do i need to go get something for them? as babies are there any other needs that they have?

It may have been old age or whatever, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

He had a white spot near his mouth, and his body looked fatter.

Then for a couple days before he died he was lying down the bottom of the tank and it was a lot of effort for him to swim to the top.

I didn't clean the tank too often (because I was told it is stressful for them) but I never let it get filthy. (Cleaned the tank about every 1.5 - 2 weeks) but I had him for a year or two and that never bothered him.

I was very careful with the ph levels and he had a heater in winter, so I know it's none of that.

It was a small to medium sized tank, (I though it was cruel to put him in a tiny jar like alot of people do) and he use to love swimming around alot.

Did he have a disease? If so, what was it?

I had a (male) fighter fish, which I loved, but he died a couple days ago. Now, I would like to get a couple of fish (2 or 3) that are easy to look after (don't require too much water change hassle or filter etc)

I know you can't put fighters together (which is a shame).

So, what fish can I get? I read that goldfish require a filter (otherwise I would probably get goldfish)

Also, if you can tell me how to clean the tank out properly since my fish died in it, and in case he had a disease, I don't want to spread that to the new fish.

Thankyou :)
