Fish - October 2007

I've gone through 4 apple snails in about a week.I feed them alpha waffers. they are in with a beta fishy and a drawf frog. is there somthing im doing wrong? only thing I put into the tank is some of that beta chemical cleaner, like a cap full. why do they keep dying??

Every morning when I feed my fish in my koi pond I notice several wasps floating in the water. The fish seem to ignore them completely and don't even make an attempt to eat them. The fish are about 1inch to 1 1/2 inches. So I'm pretty much stuck fishing the wasps out. What's going on here?

i feed him brine shrimp and blood worms. i have had him for about 4 weeks. My gold fish is a pig and eats most of the food but my puffer wont eat left overs. Dose anyone know whats wrong with him?

OK well I was looking in my guppy tabk becuase one of my guppies had fry and I noticed this weird looking creature that is living in my fish tank.I have no idea what it is it kinda looks like one of those like lobster or whatever I dont know how to explain it but I have never bought anything like this and i have no clue what to do with it.I have it is a lil container and I dont know if it is safe for my tank or what.I saw it and I knew I must get on here and ask ppl about this...what is this??? It is like brown and see thru kinda...I wish my camera took better pics Id put a pic up..Ne ways ya plz help me with this!!

Well my husband and I got a fish the other day at petsmart. It is our 3rd daying having our fish.. and I changed the water today and I have been feeding the lil guy everday... but it keeps sinking to the bottom and looking limp and just stay in the same spot.. then i will tap on the glass and then he will wiggle around and stuff then a few mins later he floats up to the top and looks limp as if he dead... why does it keep doing that?? Does it mean its a sign that it gonna die? Or does he just like to play dead a lot?

my oscar fish's eye is cloudy. not the entire eye but just a part of it. can this be a eye infection? and also the oscar fishes fins right next to the gills and those fins only none other else have like whitisht spots on them im not sure if there ick because ick is usually aorund the whole body.

My fish are adored, because i dont have time to put effort into other pets. (They both have first and last names and one has a middle name..and very distinct personalities). They are two red beta fish. Any simple ideas on fun things to do? Can they eat anything besides regular fish food?

I've had my Beta fish (Leo) for 4 months now. He lives far enough from the window that the sun never reaches him but he gets natural light daily. I read a couple weeks ago that you're only supposed to change 20% of the water in their tanks at a time and even though i'd always changed most of the water when cleaning i decided to give that a try. After about 2 weeks of doing this the water looked incredibly gross because i wasn't getting all of the mess off the bottom so i just went ahead and changed all the water like i usually do. In the last 6 days or so his face has changed from a purply blue color to almost green. It's nasty looking and he's definitely not swimming around as happily as usual, Also, he's stopped making bubble nests. Could it have been the week of nasty water that made him sick? I also added a piece of bambo to his tank.Can anyone help me figure out what to do to make my little Leo better? I've really enjoyed having him around and hate seeing him look so miserable.thx

I use to use a filter, but my fish would get stuck in it. Is there a more convenient way to oxygenate the water without air tubing and pumps? I have a 5 gallon tank with a small goldfish in it.

I am making a fish maze.
It is a rectangle.
The width of the short sides is 11 inches, and for the long side it is 14 inches.
I am having trouble with the height.
I only have a limited supply of glass..so what is a reasonable height for a fish? (the fish live in a tank!) 5.5 in? 4.5 in? 4 in? somewhere around those numbers?

And also should I glue the walls on the outside of the base, or the inside?

I have a male pearl gourami that, since two to three days ago, has become a bit lethargic. He's been hiding in the cave we had and hasn't been eating. The area from his head to his gills has turned red today. There are no growths or fin damage on him, however...there is what seems to be an orange growth protruding out of his gills. Is he infected? I just did a water change and rinsed the foam part of the water filter last week.

um well im redoing my room and my current aquarium stand isnt going to work, where can i get a stylish cabinet type thing that holds about 260ish pounds? theres none at IKEA. i want a long kinda low cabinet that can hold my 29 gallon aquarium on top of it. please and thanks.

I just got this mommy molly, and the next day she had babies! Luckily i had a holding net for her. Its her first time having babies, so there wasnt that many. But how do i take care of them? Its my first time as well. :)

I want to practice starting a pure (or getting the purest possible) strain using store bought guppies. I want to match to females with two males? How many tanks do you recommend and what should they be used for? Also is there an way to really know when the female guppy is more than likely not holding any more sperm from previous males? Should her first couple batches be culled?

I'm going to be getting an aussi water dragon soon. Right now I'm looking at putting in the pool/fountain for the wooo effect, filter the pool, keep water moving, and to raise humidity levels. I don't want to take up too much space with a waterfall but I'd like to have it up higher against the wall and flow into the pool. I saw at the petstore they had one in a fish aquarium that was huge and looked custom how does someone arange pumps and filters to make their own waterfall? I already know how to make the fake rock walls. I've looked at all these other waterfalls like exo terra but I'm just not impressed they all take up too much room and the water "falls" like 5 inches from the top while taking up like 12 inches of the lizard pool. Last resort I'd like to know how to just run some pumps to some filters to keep the water flowing and filtered.

I have a catfish, that i think is pretty normal, and i have now obtained a light for his plant. I'm curious if anyone knows if i should put the light on during the day, or the night, going by when cat fish sleep, i dont want to make my fish sad. I want it to have a happy expierence of living.
