Every morning when I feed my fish in my koi pond I notice several wasps floating in the water. The fish seem to ignore them completely and don't even make an attempt to eat them. The fish are about 1inch to 1 1/2 inches. So I'm pretty much stuck fishing the wasps out. What's going on here?

Most of them are dead. The ones that aren't dead are trying to get out of the water.
Out of all bugs I was expecting mosquitos to be floating on the water.

Wasps need water too. When your koi get large they will try to eat them though. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Instead of shooing the wasps off of the water, serch for their nest, they have one close by and get rid of it. Be careful with pesticides that none, not even a tiny drop falls into the pond. If you find the nest and its close to the pond wait for a windless day to spray them. If you don't find it don't worry koi will eat any insect that lands in the water and it will help them grow large.
It is likely that the koi have attemped a wasp or two and been stung. The 3 second memory thing is false, they would remember that those particular bugs sting and not to eat them.

Wasps will go to ponds for water and then not be able to get out. You see this a lot with bees in swimming pools also. My koi won't eat these kind of bugs so I too just use the net to fish them out.

i do know that mud wasps will sit on the water to get some water to build their mud nests. If your wasps are dead on the pond that's a different story.
No clue
