Well my husband and I got a fish the other day at petsmart. It is our 3rd daying having our fish.. and I changed the water today and I have been feeding the lil guy everday... but it keeps sinking to the bottom and looking limp and just stay in the same spot.. then i will tap on the glass and then he will wiggle around and stuff then a few mins later he floats up to the top and looks limp as if he dead... why does it keep doing that?? Does it mean its a sign that it gonna die? Or does he just like to play dead a lot?

well i am using a soulution that the lady at petsmart said to use. It is a water condition type souluation and elminates bacterica and chlorine. And I feel bad that my lil fish has to be lonely.. but if i get another fish and put it in his lil glass tank then they will eat eachother up! I dont want that to happen!!. I forget what kinda fish I have ....lol.

i had a clown loach and a few oscars that used to do this all the time, but as long as it eats consistently with no problems, then it should be okay. Unless your using tap water instead of filtered water because that would be bad (high chlorine concentration)

Can you use the edit icon to add what type of fish you have? Some cichlids, loaches, and iridescent sharks naturally play dead when they're in new surroundings, so this may not be anything.

It may also be that you need to do a water change if the tank is also new. The ammonia from your fish's waste is toxic to them, and you may not have enough bacteria in the tank yet to convert it to a less harmful substance (nitrate): http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/disease/p/ammoniapoison.htm

Sounds like a water chemistry problem. Not trying to be offensive, just trying to help. If you are going to keep fish do some homework first and make sure you know how to set up the aquarium. If your water is not properly established it WILL kill most fish when they are put into it. There are thousands of books and websites that can give you detailed information on how to set up and maintain aquariums.

Do some research on the type of fish that you have. Maybe you might want to change the tank and the water temp. Maybe he needs another fish to play with. It just depends.

My brother is a notorious fish killer.

He had one fish that started to go belly-up. I came to the rescue and fixed the water problems and cleaned the tank.

The fish lived... hooray!
