He can easily get to be 8 inches or longer, if you give him a 50 gallon tank, keep the water clean and feed him veggies, fruits and healthy food likle Hikari. I love it when they get big and gorgeous:)

Goldfish are a lot of work and are not the easy fish to take care of that they have been mislabeled to be, and fancy goldfish are rather sensitive, but if you are willing to put the time and money into it that needs to be, then it is possible to get a fancy goldfish that is very large, maybe not quite the size of a football, but 6-8 inches big for certain. Here is a link to one of the best sites on the web for goldfish. Read every article until you can recite the facts in your sleep. Get on the chat site and ask tons of questions. Read other site information and books. Short and simple, you need to allow a lot of room for a goldfish to stay healthy and to grow. To give ample space to one fancy to achieve the size you want, I wouldn’t give it anything less than 30-40 gallons of water, and that’s right from the start. And, if you do get it up to 6-8 inches, it's going to need 75-80 gallons of water. The biggest fish grow in ponds, but unless you can assure a water temperature of nothing less than 55 degrees F all year around, then you can’t keep fancy goldfish in ponds. Learn about the nitrogen cycle and how to cycle water and keep it healthy. Test your water often, at least once a week, with liquid test kits. Understand what proper filtration is, what it does, why you need it and how it works. Learn how to do proper water changes and tank maintenance. Learn proper feeding techniques and the alternate food sources goldfish need. And learn how to identify and treat diseases. Goldies rule! Good luck!

Put the goldfish is as much water as possible, an outside pond is preferable. For 10 years keep the water near perfect and feed 2 to 3 times a day healthy food. Keep the water warm year round in the mid to high 70's. With some luck in genetics you too can produce football sized goldfish. Check out Bruce the giant goldfish, who is bigger than a football

An outside pond is really the only way to grow colossal goldfish, no matter what climate you live in. Even if you just leave them outside during the warm months, they will grow 4-6 times faster and larger than in a tank.....even a huge tank. You can't compete with Mother Nature.
