I'm not sure what's all in the chemical cleaner, but my first suggestion would be to try keeping a snail by itself (separate container) and use just a regular conditioner (to remove chlorine or chloramine, which ever your water company uses) to make sure it's not something in the water.

It may be that your betta is harrassing the snails. They see the eyestalks on the snail and bite them. Apple (actually mystery) snails aren't the best snails to keep with bettas as the snails prefer cooler temperatures (room temperature would be fine) while bettas need tropical conditions (76-86o water). The snails can live in it, but their life spans are shortened from the usual 10 years to about 2. Nerite snails (a snail that needs saltwater for breeding, so they never can overrun your tank) or other tropical snail would be a better tankmate if you can figure out why yours don't last.

NOTE: Distilled water isn't the best type to use with your snails or fish - it lacks beneficial elements as well as the bad. Try using reverse osmosis water (Culligan water) - this is better and you can get it for under $1 per gallon.

They are probably starving to death. depending on the exact species of snails that you have, some saltwater snails can be voracious eaters and will starve easily without an adequate supply of nuisance algae in your aquarium. your tank probably only has enough algae for one or two snails to survive, thus, that's all you have left after about a week. It could also be a bullying problem. While all of your fish are peaceful, it still is an alternative--although I think starvation is much more likely.

snails are hyper-sensitive to heavy metal is your water. They are also sensitive to many additives in commercial medications and algae killers.

Run all water through a carbon filter before using it. Make sure that the betta conditioner you are using is for water treatment, not medication, like Betta Remedy or Betta Fix.

are you positive they are dead? my snail has actually been hybernating for about 3 weeks, but I know for sure it's not dead.

does your tank (or the snail) smell really foul? are they floating? if so, they are possibly dead, and I'm sorry but i couldn't help you out as to why, maybe the dwarf frog?
