*** Edit *** sdkfjh d, I'm afraid that there is no fish that you can just plop in a tank. All fish, even small ones, will require a portion of your time every day! Also, you don't seem to understand that a bowl is NOT an acceptable home for any fish. Perhaps you need to re-think your decision about getting a fish. You will be solely responsible for this creature's health and well being. It isn't simply "just a fish". It's a living thing!! If you aren't willing to provide an appropriate living environment (filtered tank with fitted lid), then I would respectfully suggest that you do not get a fish.

To keep ANY fish healthy, colorful and active, you need to purchase a tank. You can get a small set-up including a filter, heater, lid and 5 gallon tank for under $50. Then you would be able to keep a beautiful male betta, a few neons, swordtails, mollies or gouramis (dwarf). I'm a goldfish person, and will tell you that a goldfish must have a 20 gallon tank.

In a small tank some very small schooling fish or a male betta would be nice.

By medium size you must mean 55 to 100 gallons. Right?

I have 2 gold fish fan-tailed. they're really pretty! but the bad thing about that is you can only have fan tailed with them other wise the normal fish(without the nice tail) with start to eat the other one:(. here's a pic. p.s the first one is fan tailed, second one normal(both cold water fish types)
