I have 2 fantail goldfish, 2 black moores, 1 molley and 1 I'm not sure. They are all little fish about 1 inch long. Will they still grow to normal size? I plan on getting a big aquarium for Christmas. Will they be ok until then?

Please don't tell me to get a bigger tank. I'm getting it a 5 gallon tank next week (yes i know they need 10. gallons but i have no space) Meanwhile, I have to clean his 2.5 gallon tank every day cuz i have no filter. It think it is stressing him out! Should i get a filter? Do you recommend a certain filter? Oh and do i need to clean his tank a lot with a filter? I really want my fish to live a long and content life :)

I'm trying to speed up the cycling process so i added a handful of gravel from a pre-existing tank.

1) is this enough gravel? it was literally the amount my hand could hold.
2) will the bacteria proliferate in a tank with only river rocks that are smooth and larger than the gravel?
3) will the bacteria move into my filter and expedite the growth on the bio medium?
4) would exposing the gravel to air for 5 seconds kill the beneficial bateria?

thanks for your help, experts. cheers!

My daughter got one of those 5 gallon complete set fish tanks for her birthday. It has a filter and hood light (which we keep on all the time). I got her three neon tetras to start and they are still thriving, HOWEVER, every other fish we've purchased has died. Not right away, but usually within about two weeks or so. I have not had the water tested yet, but I will soon. We've gone through guppies and danios (six total). I hid the food to make sure she is not overfeeding. The water is clear. I'm wondering if the filter (even though it came with the tank) is creating too much of a current for the larger fish. They seem to always be swimming against it. Any ideas?

I have a tank with 2 swordtails, 2 plattys and 5 guppys. My female swordtail ignores the male and shows far more interest in the male platty's. Is it possible for the two species to interbreed.....will i have mutant baby fish?...help!

One of my two fish is bullying the other. I never see it eat, it spends it's whole time in the corner behind the filter. It can swim and everything, but every time it ventures out the other one chases it furiously.

It has 3 black spots, which I think is stress related. The water temperature is fine, as are the levels of nitrites, nitrates and ammonia.

They're both mollies.

They're in a 28L tank which will soon be a community fish - these were my first ones.

Should I introduce some more fish? Does it matter whether it's another molly or not?

Or shall I attempt to separate the tank into two, and if so with what?

I'm getting worried as the fish is getting thin.

This is the second time she gave birth, but the first time she did it was in the main tank. This time I moved her into a 10 gallon breeder tank 2 days after she became pregnant (I had to because the male kept on harassing her). It's not even a month and I see her popping out babies. The babies don't instantly hid and swim, and they still have egg yolks. Her mouth is a little white (not really sure if she is sick from columaris, can't confirm yet).

Oh yea, the breeder tank still has 3 pregnant guppies, 7 one month old mollies, and 3 three week old baby guppies. Is she too stress out? Or is the fry suppose to have egg yolk (my first time seeing in action of her giving birth)?

I have a 200 litre tank, not sure what that is in gallons, anyway my fish are all slowly starting to show the signs of camallanus eg red anus with red worms poking out, I have been doing research as to how to treat these parasites and have discovered you can use panacur soaked in frozen bloodworm as treatment? I am usure on the dosage as some of my fish are an inch long and others are 4 inches in length would this make a difference to the dosage? Has anyone got any other suggestions as to get rid of these horrible pests?

They were introduced in to my tank after buying some bolivian rams. They spent 3 weeks in quaratine before I added them to my tank, then a couple of weeks later they had red worms sprouting out their anus, now my other fish are also starting to show these horrible worms, it takes upto 12 weeks before they show any symptoms.

feed a male beta fish goldfish? If I can, how many do I give him in one feeding? Will he beat em up first? Cause that would just be wrong!

Ok, for the past like day and a half, my Male Betta Fish has been acting weird. He only sits on the bottom of his bowl and he did not even eat today. i know he is still alive because his gills are moving and he is moving his fins but not swimming.

More Info: I got him this April, and he has been acting healthy the whole time, eating every day, swimming around, etc. I changed his water yesterday (that night he started acting weird.) Just please help if you can. real answers please.

Thanks =)

My husband went out catching yabbies, and brought heaps home and put them in our tank with my breeding cychlids. A friend of mine told me that if any of them die in the tank they give off a deadly poison that could kill the rest of the yabbies and the fish, is this true? becuase one died this morning, and i have $5,000 worth of fish in there, the tank is 7ft x 4ft x 3ft (if that makes any difference)

Okay so I got my new 10 gallon today that I will keep guppies in. I put in the gravel and the water, and hooked up the filter. I don't have the heater yet, I plan to get it in a day or two. My question is, how do I know when it's okay to start adding the guppies? I've read a week somewhere, 3 days somewhere else, but I really want to know what is it that magically happens to make it suddenly okay for a fish? Is it something I can test for with my water testing kit?

my possibly pregnant guppy actually 2 out of 3 of my females are being chased by the only male in the tank very often and the females are big and sort of boxy they swim normally, they seem to be eating food but they sometimes do spit it out, they are often on the bottom of my tank resting i guess near a plant, their gravid spots are black I am almost certain they are pregnant but I have found on 1 of my females 2 red long thin things sticking out of her bum where she poohs, and 1 sticking out on my other female so i put them i breeding traps assuming birth.. What are the red things and what should i do with females.

I added 6 pounds of live rock to my 10 gallon saltwater yesterday. After placing the rocks, I noticed an anemone spring out a couple of hours later. Today I noticed a worm of some sorts about 2 inches long. And tonight I went in and cut the lights on after it had been dark for a while and noticed 2 black legs sticking out and moving out of a crevice in one of the rocks. After seeing me or the light, it quickly pulled itself back into the rock. Any clue of what this might be? I am new to this. Also, what else can I possibly expect to come out of just the live rock alone?
