Ok, for the past like day and a half, my Male Betta Fish has been acting weird. He only sits on the bottom of his bowl and he did not even eat today. i know he is still alive because his gills are moving and he is moving his fins but not swimming.

More Info: I got him this April, and he has been acting healthy the whole time, eating every day, swimming around, etc. I changed his water yesterday (that night he started acting weird.) Just please help if you can. real answers please.

Thanks =)

Is your weather starting to get cool? Bettas are tropicals that should have tropical water temperatures - 76-86oF. If it gets too cool or too hot, they become lethargic and lose their appetite.

That's part of the problem with keeping these fish in bowls. They really do much better if given a larger volume of water (2.5 gallons should be a minimum for them) with a heater and gentle filter. This type of set-up also requires less maintenance overall, since you'll only need to change about 25% of the water each week over 100% changes every 2-3 days to keep the same water quality.

Your fish might be SHOCKED by the water change. If you changed the water up to 95 percent then your fish is in shock. Dont worry the fish will be fine soon.

When you change the water make sure to get the temp as close as you can to existing water. also change it gradually to keep the ph from fluctuating much.This site will help you with care and maintaining.

Try putting a mirror in front of the outside of the fishbowl. It might get him excited to see another fish, when it's actually himself. This is what I do to my male betta.

There might be some unwanted chemicals in the water. get the water conditioned and your beta will be energetic again.

I've heard that Betta fish can go into hibernation for a year and can go a year without eating.
