I'm getting it a 5 gallon tank next week (yes i know they need 10. gallons but i have no space) Meanwhile, I have to clean his 2.5 gallon tank every day cuz i have no filter. It think it is stressing him out! Should i get a filter? Do you recommend a certain filter? Oh and do i need to clean his tank a lot with a filter? I really want my fish to live a long and content life :)

No filter will allow a goldfish to live a full, healthy life in such a tiny tank. Remember, goldfish grow quite large, and will easily stunt in such a small tank.

EDIT:

I did read your question, and yes, I know it may be frustrating that your tank is nowhere near the size your goldfish needs, but to not say you need a bigger tank would be a lie.

You don't want people to lie to you do you?

Depending on what type of goldfish you have, it may need to have more than a 10 gallon tank as an adult. I had a white comet as a kid that was over 10 inches long, and I kept it in a 20 long because he needed the space.

Rather than buy a small filter, I would suggest getting a larger one that you can use on the larger tank that you get. It may cost more right now, but it will save you from buying another larger filter later.

One of the good brands without a high cost is the AquaClear line. The large filter sponge gives you a lot more surface area for bacteria to attach, and this will help with the ammonia the fish produce. You can adjust the flow, so you won;t have to worry about the current being too strong in the smaller tank.

You should also get a gravel vacuum to clean the wastes from the gravel at the bottom. If any debris gets caught there, it decomposes and can foul your water, but you can remove it easily with a gravel vac.

A box filter with an air pump. Effective, little current for such a small space.
