Feed it snails as well as standard food

Make sure you test for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate as well

Make sure there are no aerosols that could be polluting the water

Make sure you are not over feeding or changing the water too often

Before buying another puffer, take the time to cycle a tank for it first. Puffers are extremely sensitive to ammonia and nitrite in their water. Without giving the bacteria time to build up to where the ammonia the puffer produces (and later, the nitrite) are converted into a less toxic substance (nitrate). This will take several weeks to complete. If you try to introduce a puffer to an uncycled tank, or one that doesn't have enough volume to sufficiently dilute their wastes (and if you've had one, you should know they tend to be messy fish), you may lose another one. The wait also give you the time to set up a snail tank for puffer food - if they don't have snails or something with a hard shell to eat, their beak becomes overgrown and they can't eat properly - another cause for their too-early deaths.

all you really need is the rightr salt amount...i forgot what brackish is on hydrometer but you can easily find that out..puffers are very strongf fish and generally are not effected by ammonium and nitrates, etc.. lastly, i STRONGLY recommded feeding it frozen brine shrimp--all my puffers devour it like its filet mignon!!! you might want to add an additional puffer or two once you're set up--they may like company but careful not to overcrowd(i a 10 gallon you could probably get 2-3 as long as you have cover for themi.e plants, decorations etc that they can use for hiding

GSPs need lots of room as they age. They can get up to 6 inches and will eventually need full salt water. Pond snails are great for keeping their beaks trimmed. I feed these a couple times a week. For daily feeding they get freeze dried brine shrimp. You can also feed them guppies, just make sure you get them from someone you trust. Wouldn't want to introduce parasites.

Water changes are important. They don't have scales or gill covers, so most meds will harm them. Make sure your tank is cycled and ask your pet store how they care for theirs. If they keep them in fresh water, you'll have to acclimate them to brakish slowly. If they keep them in BW find out what their SG is and try to match it at home.

Also, join a fish forum if you haven't already. I like www.aquariacentral.com . The folks there are wonderful and patient and are always happy to help someone that wants to learn.
