My oldest daughter is almost 8 years old and in 2nd grade. What age should you start talking to your children about sex and drugs? And what do you say? I had sex before marriage and got pregnant and while I don't regret what I did, I also don't want my daughter to do the same thing. We were taught abstience and my mother was adimate about it- so were weren't allowed to take sex ed classes at school because she didn't believe in teaching about protection.... she thought they should just teach absitinance and leave it at that. However, I'm on the fence as to what to teach my daughter- I do believe in teaching her abstinence, but I also know that chances are- she will have sex before marriage- so how do I go about teaching sexual safety and protection without giving her the impression that having sex at a young age etc is acceptable behavior and ok?

My son is actually 3-1/2 and I think it is a good age to start school (daycare/preschool). Would you agree?

In addition, I work from home so running around after a 3 year old is distracting to say the least. :)

BUT...I fear for my son's safety. How many sad and tragic cases have we seen on the news where a child was abused or neglected by his/her caregiver? What about all of those sick pedophiles out there?! I just feel more comfortable if I were close to my son where I can keep an eye on him.

What can I do to ease my fears?!

I watched an Oprah show the other day where she stated that she does not want to do shows about this subject, because it is not a normal way to punish your child. My opinion, there are other ways to disipline children like time outs or taking stuff away from them which they value alot, and it does work, but sometimes children do get very stuborn and I think this would be the last option to spank them. I also think the parent should always be in controle of him self and not let this get out of hand. Three slaps on the bottom is o.k with me, but before this there must be a explanation to the child why he or she is being punished. What do you think, am I being reasnoble or not. And what about a toddler, which does not always understand in what other way can he be punished.

They just let the kids run around like little freaks. and if you ask the parent if the believe that they are doing a great job raising their kids, they would say they were.
My parents whacked me couple times when I did something bad and I turned out fine. If I ever have kids someday I will probably do the same.
Would you?

I've been accepted to a nursing program but the problem is that I'm totally poor. I wont be able to work and as such we can't pay for childcare. My mother has offered to take her for the next 2 years but I feel like such a horrible mother.

I feel so bad that I'm so poor that I cant keep my daughter. Granted that my financial situation will be different in 2 years but I worry about the emotional effects.

Any advice?

My dad is constantly bossing my kids around. I am on vacation in his house for the next 4 weeks and he jumps in every time I try to discipline the kids and he snaps at them for no reason.

I tried defending them last time because he wanted to punish them for going outside even though I had told them they could. He got mad at me because I disrespected him in front of the kids and he felt I was unfair to him.

I can't just up and leave. I need to resolve this. Any ideas?

My children are 12, 10, and 7. I am married, my husband is away at work during this time so he can't help. When he is here my parents don't act like this.

You see, my husband is a Marine & well lets just say he has a pretty bad vocabulary.

I tried ignoring it. I tried telling him no. I tried putting him in the corner. I've tried just about everything. He will be 2 next month.

He is not the typical toddler either. He says just about everything, just not what I ask him to say.

Boyfriend and I are raising his boys.

Boys mom boyfriend hates kids.

Mom ran off years ago but keeps in contact by talking to them almost everyday or taking them to school. Holidays; ect.

Boys mom bought boys telephones (boys 15 and 16) 1 month later mom says 16 yr old has to take over phone bill (he does work)

I feel it is unappropriate because 16 yr old is to irresponsible and now we have the burden of overseeing another bill that will now be in his name and it adds more stress on him.

When I was a teenager and my room was messy, my Dad had an obnoxious way of dealing with it. He would wake me up really really early before school started and stand over me.

He'd point and be like, "Pick that up" "Pick that up" and point at items on the floor. I don't know why, but it felt kind of degrading, especially because he'd yell and curse if I showed the least bit of attitude or annoyance.

Anyhow, my daughter is five and spent the weekend with my parents. She called me on Saturday crying because my Dad had done the same thing to her.

I wasn't sure how to react. I kind of distracted her by talking about something else so she'd stop crying.

It's not like my daughter sits around hitting herself in the head all day long. She's incredibily smart for her age, very social, very talkitive, and very happy & energetic.

Just once in a while, she'll have a toy (whether it's soft or hard) and hits herself with it by accident, then does it again.

I only asked about it, to see if anyone else has ever had this. I asked in the PARENTING category, because I wanted PARENTS to answer, and help me out. Now just simple minded people who have no clue about kids.

I never thought it was a 'real' issue, always thought it was more of a behavior issue. Now my 8-year old son is having some signs of it and I don't know what to do-I really don't want him om medications. (I have teenage cousin's that have it and they hated taking the medicine because it always made them feel groggy). It's came on over the last month or two.

He fidgets his fingers, loses things, has problems completing his homework on time (he is a straight A student), his teacher has noticed a changes too - he seems very distracted and doesn't seem to be paying attention. He also does this at home, I can look him directly in the face, eye to eye and tell him something and he can't tell me what I said a few minutes later.

I like to do a lot of research on the toys I buy and find reviews. I was wondering what you were planning on getting your kids and what their ages are. I will post mine later.

When I first heard of the tragic events that led up to the death of Baby Grace, real name Riley Ann Sawyer, My heart just broke in two and I burst into tears and could not stop crying for her. I cant understand why a mother would do that to her own 2 year old daughter, or even watch her husband do that to her child. She was helpless and too young and small to even defend herself, all she wanted like all children want is to be loved by her mommy, and look what she got, something she did not ever deserve. I have a 2 year old son who is the exact age as Riley, he was born march of 2005, the same as her. and I have so much love for my son, and thank God for him all the time, that I would never ever ever even imagine hurting him the way Riley was hurt by her own mother. I hate that woman so much for what she did Riley that I really wish someone would do to her what she did to Riley, beat her with a belt, hold HER head underwater and pick her up by the hair and throw her against a wall

My baby has been sleeping with us since she was born. I had a c-section and nursing was made a lot easier this way. We also lived in a loft with a curious cat who was always jumping in the crib before baby arrived. We didn't want to chance the cat jumping in the crib once baby was sleeping in it.

Things have changed. The cat has a new home. We now have a 2 bedroom apartment. Baby is now an active 7 month old who will roll off the futon if left alone. I've been wanting more and more to let her at least take naps in her crib where it's safe. So far she's only done 45 minutes max then wakes up crying. I can't get her back in the crib after that. I will NOT let her cry it out. She sleeps like a dream in her car seat but I read that it may cause pressure on her spine in this position. I've noticed that the attachment parenting advocates say moms should be napping with baby but let's be real now. I haven't done this since she was 3 months old - unless I am exhausted. Any advice

Ok so i heard about this family is arkansas who has 17 children ranging in ages 18 to 9 months and i was listening to the radio and all these people were disrespecting their family saying they were overpopulating the world and i thought that what they said was very rude! Do you think that, that it is wrong to have so many kids?
