When I first heard of the tragic events that led up to the death of Baby Grace, real name Riley Ann Sawyer, My heart just broke in two and I burst into tears and could not stop crying for her. I cant understand why a mother would do that to her own 2 year old daughter, or even watch her husband do that to her child. She was helpless and too young and small to even defend herself, all she wanted like all children want is to be loved by her mommy, and look what she got, something she did not ever deserve. I have a 2 year old son who is the exact age as Riley, he was born march of 2005, the same as her. and I have so much love for my son, and thank God for him all the time, that I would never ever ever even imagine hurting him the way Riley was hurt by her own mother. I hate that woman so much for what she did Riley that I really wish someone would do to her what she did to Riley, beat her with a belt, hold HER head underwater and pick her up by the hair and throw her against a wall

It isn't just her I have been crying for lately.
There has been an awfully large amount of Child Abuse/neglect cases in the new here (Australia). One poor child only weighed 9kilo and she was 7 (I think). It was terrible. My boys weighed that much when they were about 5 months old.
I can't imagine what goes on in peoples heads. It is too sad.
I also have 2yo boys (twins) and could never imagine doing any thing to hurt them. Yes they push your limits sometimes and really get on your nerves, but I would never hurt them. Damn I don't even like smacking them.
I feel sorry for all those people who can't have children, seeing without a doubt most would have been better parents than this poor child's mother.

I have a 20 month old daughter and each time I hear a new detail, my stomach turns and I feel like crying. I suspect that having a small child that is around the same age intensifies the feelings of sadness and anger that these horrendous things are happening in the world. I remember that the police detective was also distraught. I think he has a grandchild that is Riley's age and I remember reading that he said he 'was a cynical old cop' who was very affected.

I cryed too. Poor little girl. I have a 2 year old daughter too and if anyone ever laid a hand on any of my children, ild kill them. I grew up right by where her family lives in Mentor Ohio.
I think unfortunate things like this happen to remind us all how much we love our own children. What a terrible way to learn a lesson though, huh?
For Melissa: both the mother and step father have addmitted to doing this so I dont think there is any assuption here. Its not like the Maddilne Mccann case.

although i agree 100 percent with your feelings and how sad and sickened it makes me to hear of such things happening, I am going to reserve any judgments until the whole story is out, there are absolutely no details available except that the 2 have been held for minor charges, i have been staying on top of this story and what you feel and assume is most likely right and justified but i have learned from the past we should never jump to any assumptions, even the dads family say only good about the mom, mostly, and whenever i think i have heard it all a new story shows up in the news that just floors me,

I live in Mentor Ohio also for many years. Cannot understand how anyone could hurt an inncoent child, much less repeatedly. God help and protect that poor little girl.
If the mother did not want her it sounds as if the dad's family certainly did. Very sad.

What I dont understand is how did this stupid sorry *** excuse for a mother just let her boyfriend beat and torture the child this way and then participated in it to please him!!! How F U C Ki N G sick!!! then she just stayed there with him after the remains of the baby where left in the byn for two months to rot!! and now the ***** is pregnant again here is the link http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/5334351.html ... that means that the other baby was conceived either around the time of the abuse and killing of Ryley or after the babys dead body was left in the byn to rot!!! anyways I know we will hear more gruesome details about this... if I was that woman I would of fought that bastard and never ever ever permit him to hurt my child in that way I would of killed him somehow before he killed my child and I would of been in jail for killing him! I cant believe this ***** just met some ramdom guy on line and moved with in with him and just two months later he killed this baby and then she just sat there and participated in it, I hope that they dont allow the mom to keep the other baby and after she has that other baby and they take that other baby away , they system should leave them in jail for a looong time and not protected from the other immates so that the other immates will torture them and eventually kill their *** the same way they killed and torture that baby.

Yes!! Yes !! Yes !! God allowed us to have children to love, nourish and PROTECT. I have read of too many cases of child abuse, usually by the live-in boyfriend, step-father and even the father. Sometimes the mother either doesn't to anything to prevent the abuse ("I'm afraid him, or " I love him") and may even participate. These types of people have no respect for children or theirselves and should be sterilized as part of their sentence. As with any murderer, it should be done to them what they did to the victim.
