Why do people assume you are mature or experienced simply as older?

Get a lot of this thinking from parents especailly who assume often wrongly that just as someone is older they have done this & that so many times and have this & that interests as a result of getting mature from this experience.

But what f they dont get those experiences at the right ages?

Therefore get older but dont mature.

Dont progress.

Often due to sheltering, over protective parents who keep kids in the dark creating a vicious circle riple effect.

ie cant get a date at 18 as did not get one at 16,

Cent get a live in relationship at 21 as have not done all the sleeping around at 17 in some 18-30 holiday...

Ie you get older but nothing changes as simply aint got the experience everyone else has to compete & impress the opposite sex or cope with living on your own etc.

Why assume people are always all the same experience and maturty at each age. Not 24 with exp of ave16

Where did I go wrong? I have two beautiful grown up children, one lives 5 miles away with her family the other lives at the other end of the country and loves his life. Yet my husband and I never see or hear from them unless we make contact first. They know they are much loved and when they do eventually get round to getting in touch or coming home I realise we have brought two smashing people into the world - yet getting them to keep in touch of their own volition is like pulling teeth with a pair of tweezers - impossible!

OK going on from question below... how do you mature without being sexaully active or other stuff.?

In regards to the right age to start.

Several parents seem to be under the impression you pick up maturity points out of thin air as a present on your birthday.

I dont get this.

I only understand people maturing due to certain experiences of them and friends.

Without those experiences how on earth do you mature?

its like saying somone can become an excellent driver withotu a car or be a top pool pl;ayer withotu a pool table.

Simply as they got older.

What if you went into a coma at age 14 and work wehn you are 20m, and instantly have to move out of home.

How can you mature simply by age?

So why do people think you are experienced and mature simply as you had more birthdays.

Ie how do shelteredd kids , who got no dates, no gf/bfs mature?

With parents wanting them to wait before they date.

How will they get a date ?

He's into everything and he pretty much has everything. I'm fresh out of ideas. I am willing to spend $90,000 on something. Please don't say a car because I'm already buying him one. It's not his birthday but I want to get him a gift just because. Here are some of the things I have gotten him:Car,the Xbox 360,the PS3,the Wii,6 new computers,a 108 inch tv,Directv,A new wardrobe(every season it changes),the finest education, and the latest electronics.

I think that most parents of adolescents will be quite surprised at the answers I got to this question. The majority of the answerers do not feel that they are getting the reasons WHY they are told not to drink/drug/smoke and have random sex.

Any comments?

Why do parents want their kids to be 18 or older when they first have sex?

not a perve angle more serious.

ie why would you not want first times whilst they are still at home and living with you who can monito the situation and act as giude, mentor, support, shoulder to cry on when dumped and help with development.

Plus it to be in line with others their age and general growing up, in line with music, first festivals, when they have a large group of friends to hang out with and party with.

When they have each other to truen to.

And when in an instituion where there are hundreds their age mostly single going through the same thing at the same time.

So they get a chance to evelop emtoionall so when they get to say uni or work or bars...

They are for want f a better way of putting it

level 10 like the others not level 1 in terms of chatting up, pulling, handing relationships etc.

As its all competiton to pull those you like and to keep them

If you are at someones home for a large gathering like say a birthday party with a buch of kids and toddlers around and a kid runs or walks past you with the unmistakable odor of loaded britches, do you say something funny or in a joking manner or just keep quiet and let someone else figure it out?

I was visiting a friend of mine one day and I went to use the bathroom, leaving my daughter alone in the presence of this friend of mine. I have never had any worries before around him. When I returned to the room, my daughter looked scared or worried. She told me a couple of days later that he tried to french kiss her. I am wondering if he can be prosecuted for this. It has bothered her alot and she never wants to be near him again. And as a mother I will make sure that she never is. I was shocked, I told him how unappropriate his actions were, he appologized to her, but somehow that just doesn't seem to fix this. Any advice on what I can do?

My daughter is touching the volume knob on the stereo. She looks at me and laughs. I tell her no thank you calmly, I've tapped her hand and said no thank you. I've redirected her to her toys. But she keeps going back to the stereo touching and laughing. The stereo can't be moved to any where else. Please give me some ideas thank you.

My son is 8 and wants to play football. I don't watch football but my mom has always said it's dangerous. I am worried about the dangers involved but other parents have reassured me that it's not. I don't really know what to think. He really wants to play pretty bad. I want to let him play but I am a little worried... Am I just being a worrier or are my moms concerns right?!

My daughter and every student in the school really has said at one point or another that the school counsler does nothing to solve their issues. He just makes up a lame excuse to leave them alone together so they can "work it out" and doesn't even talk to them or try to help them understand why they feel a certain way or why another student acts a certain way. So when he returns expecting them to of made up, they just pretend everythings ok so they can get out of there because he never helps them at all! My daughter says she just says "yea ok everythings just fine now thank you" and leaves really feeling discouraged because he doesn't really help them at all! I've talked with him about it and he says he wants to give them time to make up and I questioned him "But aren't they really just pretending to make up so they can just leave"? He seems to have this attitude like "so what's the problem?"Problem is it's just going to get worse if you don't REALLY help them with the problem! DUH!

My son was 4 when he was taken from me and adopted by a couple who I know nothing about and I am just wondering if there was a site that would let me put up my information if my son wants to contact me. He is 10 now and I pray that he will want to see me again someday. I miss him so much.

I have an 11 yr old son and a 9 yr old daughter. Their father left the day that she was born. There has been no contact since. 2 nights ago he shows up at my door, wanting to see my children. He claims that he tried to reach me several times in the 1st yr that he left, but that my mom intervened all times and told him they weren't his, DNA tests proved them to be someone elses', etc. This is probably true. My mom is prejudice, he's black. However, I filed child support 2 years ago, and DNA tests were performed then, proving him to be the father. So, no matter what, he's known for 16 months that he's got 2 kids over here. Do I allow him to see them? Do I take them to counseling? How do I explain this to them? I want to do what's right for the kids, no matter what. I just don't want tp traumatize them. He's married w/2 kids and 1 on the way. His wife wants him to have nothing to do with mine. What kind of situation does that put mine in on visiting day? HELP!!!

I am a single parent. I work in the hospital as a food service assistant. I bring home $1100 a month and i live in a two bedroom apt. I pay $570 for rent and I have cable, internet, a light bill, a phone bill and I take care of my daughter alone. I have $200 left over at the end of the month and i'm having a hard time finding rides to and from. My aunt told me to get a new car but I think I should get a used one.

What should I do? New or used?

My seven year old is a BIG help. I am pregnant and now single. She helps out so much as i have been so exhausted this pregnancy. I have been giving her allowance for her extra chores and told her how much I appreciate all her help. I had a talk with her and told her that I would still probably need lots of help after the baby is born too, especially when we go camping and stuff. I told her I don't expect her to be my slave and I want her to be a kid and did she find all the work she does unfair. She said she doesn't mind at all because I pay her... Is that a good or bad parenting move to pay her? Some chores are expected.. like take care of your own hamster.. put you own dishes in the sink... take the dog out... but all her extra help, I give her allowance for. I feel bad because I need her help so much and I dont' want to rob her of her childhood. She is ok with it as she feels apprecaited and gets to earn money... is this bad of me?

In the morning some cereal, waffle, or eggs, lunch it'll be chicken, and she'll want a lot of it, and I didn't pay attention. dinner..if she could she would eat everything. I finally noticed it and I took some food away from her because she was already on her 3 one and she just started to cry and cry. I feed her good food, ham, chicken, cereal, eggs, tomatos, chickpeas, she'll eat anything that I'll give her, but she keeps on wanting more. What can I do?? I seriously don't know! HELP!
