If you are at someones home for a large gathering like say a birthday party with a buch of kids and toddlers around and a kid runs or walks past you with the unmistakable odor of loaded britches, do you say something funny or in a joking manner or just keep quiet and let someone else figure it out?

You should tell the caregiver of the child that the child needs a new diaper. If the child is young enough not to be embarassed by this, there is no reason to be overly subtle. Just let the caregiver know. If the child is old enough to want to hide the problem, let the caregiver know out of earshot of the children, or, if you and the child would feel comfortable and have a good enough relationship with the child, pull the kid aside and help him/her get cleaned up without the other kids knowing.

Since it can't be too comfortable for the child either, I would probably make a general statement in the direction of the parent like, " Oh, smells like somebody needs a diaper change." Smile, when you say it so you don't sound priggishly offended. It's not the child's fault.

If you know who the child's parent (s) are then bring it to their attention saying something like," Lil' Suzy need to be changed". Or say something like'" There's a poopy diaper that needs some attention over here". You don't have to be loud about it but I'm sure you'll get someones attention that can take care of the matter.

Just say "Ewww someone's got a stinky going on! Who could it be?" in a joking way or you could say the walls need new wall paper now because someone crapped themselves! LOL Seriously just be honest. When you find the loaded kid, tell his mom or dad you think he needs a change. It's no big deal!

Tell the mom!! Poopy Diapers left unattended equals diaper rash and whiney babies!!!! Let alone the the horror of the mom to end up with the stinky kid!! hahaha

I would let the child's mom know... most moms wouldn't want their kid running around with a stinky diaper. I would want to know, I would hate for my daughter to be the stinky kid in the group.

I would politely say " Excuse me but I think that your child needs changed." The parent will appreciate knowing.
But say it quietly so not to embarrass the mom or dad.

It makes me wonder why a child old enough to run or walk past you has not been potty trained by then. Usually they can speak, switch on a television set and any amount of other things. Just find his parent and quietly tell them that their child has soiled him/herself and is in need of a change. If they won't take the trouble to train their children then let them clean up what is definitely unhygenic and unpleasant for the rest of you.

You certainly don't say anything to the child; he has no control over the situation in every sense of the word. If you want to help out, pick up the kid and CHANGE him, fer cryin' out loud. You do know how to do something besides kvetch about it, right????

I would like to know but I certainly wouldn't want it brought to everyone's attention either. Take Mom or Dad aside and tell them just matter of factly.
