Today for instance, I have asked my 8 y.o. daughter to do various tasks and not a one has been completed without her being told at least 4 times. I should mention that she is my step-child that stays with us 3 1/2 days a week. I know it's hard on her to live in 2 households, ours being the more stable/structured of the 2. I am the only one (out of 4 adults in her life) who is willing to accept the fact that she may be ADD/ADHD. Recently I started her with an after school tutor who comes to her school. The tutor has come to the same conclusions (she doesn't listen, doesn't follow instructions, fails to follow through with projects) that her mind is somewhere else not like a typical 8 y.o.! I don't want to be so harsh on her at such a young age, but, I also know that if I don't step in now, it may be useless to enforce later. Needless to say I don't want her to become a pregnant teen simply because she wouldn't listen, extreme example I know, but it happens everyday.
Any help?

I have a 3 year old that refuses to brush, I have to hold her head under my arm and hold her hands down so I can brush them. Sometimes it takes both my wife and I to get them brushed. My son was never like this and it's terribly frustrating. We've tried new toothbrushes and her own special toothpaste, but the kid won't brush. Any ideas?

There are a number of people who should be licensed before they are deemed capable of caring for any child, and even then some shouldn't be allowed to do so. Do you think something like this would decrease the number of negligent parents in society or would it even make any difference?

How old should your kids be when they are able to watch nude/sex scenes in movies. I am talking about scenes in like the Titanic, Thirteen ghosts, Open Water, Jaws, and Phthon for example. I am talking about those kind of scenes in any movie.

Why can't parents who think that their jobs, social lives, etc. are more important than their children be pro-active enough to either use protection or just keep their legs shut so that they don't give birth to a child that they see as little more than an inconvenience?

My bf and I are going to have a baby in October. Right now we're in college together. I'm graduating in May and planning to move back home to have the baby. It's 1000 miles away from here and my bf has to stay to finish his degree. I don't know if its best for the baby if i stay here with him or if go home. I have a loving family with 8,11,and 14 year old brothers and sisters, 2 great parents and plenty of space and resources. Should I stay here and struggle through a failing relationship with the father or go home where there is stability?

My daughter was born recent in new york, i was told, when signing up the birth certificate, that i should give the child my surname name because the father wasnt present (i am not married). I did this. The father isnt an american and doesnot reside in america. I now want to change my child's surname to her father's surname on the birth certificate....... his information will not be included on the birth certificate.......i am just using his surname. Will i need an acknowledgement of consent form from him? or can i just go ahead and make the change on my own? thanks for the replies.....Jada

This is for women who are breastfeeding, will be breastfeeding soon, have breastfed in the past, and/or are extended breastfeeding advocates or at least open minded about it

I just joined a new yahoo group for moms like me who are pro-breastfeeding and want to share advice, experiences, support, etc. Its a new group, and we could use more members. If you fit the above description, please check out the group. Knowledge is power! Breastfeeding is best for our kids, and raising healthy and intelligent children is good for the whole world! If we can help even ONE mom choose to breastfeed, or choose not to give up too early, we will have accomplished something great! So please check it out!

We both have teenagers from previous marriages. We would love to have a baby of our own. We would be very loving parents. We know all the reasons we shouldn't but would love some reasons why we should. Any ideas? Thanks!

I love my children and am a devoted parent. But knowing what I now know, if I were looking forward at the possibility of having two abstract children (not the ones I already have and love), I would take a pass. Parenting can be so miserable--especially when you're trying to do the very best for those children you love so much.

Do you ever feel like you can't do it and you will end failing horribly as you have done in the past befor you got pregnant. Do you ever feel so depressed that you just want to lay down and feel so gulity that you are not giving your child your all. IS it okay to feel sorry for yourself now and then, when you have NOONE that you can turn to for words of encouragment and get so sad when you realize that is just you and your baby and noone cares to take the time to check in on you all or offer to help. I really dont have anyone, after the baby my friends disappeared. Is it normal to feel like this sometimes

I just get like this time to time so please dont bash me as people on here like to do, I really dont need that righ now. My child is the best thing that has ever happen to me. I just want tips on how to get through it when it happens

My coworker told me that she put a lock on her 4 year old son's bedroom door to teach him to stay in there at night. I personally think that is crazy. What's your opinion?
