If I wanted to have surgery done to improve my self esteem & confidence but I have children is this being selfish?I don't mean putting it before making sure they have food,clothes,toys,etc.....I just mean I think I would feel guilty for doing something for myself that costs alot of $ before spending the same $ on my kids instead.Do I make any sense?LOL :)

I was born wth a cleft lip and palate. I'm approaching the appropriate age to get my nose fixed one final time. This summer, I will be undergoing the last surgery (hopefully) to get my nose fixed better. I think it would depend on how you look now as to whether cosmetic surgery is necessary. If it's something that has bothered you for most of your life, then go for it. But, if it's just trying to make yourself look like a movie star, or improve upon already good looks, then I don't really agree with that.

If you have the money and you know you won't be putting your kids at disadvantage then go ahead. Personally, I could think of a lot of better things to do with thousands of dollars but I have no objection to anybody getting cosmetic surgery. Some people want it and some people don't. It's all about your personal opinion and choice. If you think it would improve your life go for it!

Hi there. Its not selfish at all. Its good to have self-esteem. I'm actually looking into cosmetic surgery myself. After having (soon3) kids its just messes up your body. For instance Id love to get a lift on my breasts and also stretch mark removal. My husband wants me to have my self-esteem back and would like me to get these things done so i feel better about myself. I think any woman should have their self-esteem. Good Luck !

You didn't tell us if this was for a deformity or if it just because you are unhappy with part of your body. I'm all for fixing a deformity but I would really ask myself if making a physical change for the sake of vanity is really going to be a long term fix. Would exercising and toning up give you some extra energy and self confidence? Are you guilty about the cost because you know it isn't a permanent fix for you?

I understand exactly how you feel - I have a hard time buying myself an expensive outfit for the same reason. I think as long as you have the money to spend it's not selfish - just make sure you do your homework finding a doctor, be careful!!

Cosmetic surgery doesn't always help your self esteem, sometimes counseling is best. But as long as your kids are happy and have all they need(and a little of what they want)you deserve a treat yourself too.And if you know its going to make you feel better, then your kids are going to benefit from seeing you happier and more content with yourself.Although you wouldn't want your kids to think happiness comes from surgery.Maybe try to not let them find out about it.GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR CHOICE.

in my opinion, it really all depends on your finances, including savings for emergencies, education for your children, etc, and how much the part of your body you are considering having done bothers you. "A minor physical irregularity can be of no consequence to one individual and yet can be of major significance to another." beauty is not mainly physical and often, it is media that dictates what we think. but media sets unrealistic standards and most of the photographs we see are digitally enhanced. take a look at this site http://www.glennferon.com/portfolio1/portfolio05.html. only when you have sincerely tried accepting yourself the way you are, and you still are unhappy, and when your finances are in order should you consider cosmetic surgery. another option is medical tourism where costs are significantly lower.

Honey, you deserve a little something for yourself sometimes. If it improves your self esteem, it seems it would be beneficial to you. Do you have a significate other that has an opinion on it? Not sure I would do cosmetic srg, myself, but if your kids are well provided for I say go for it!

i think having selfesteem is important in a healthy mind. if you want to have it done then do it. your children and everyone else will still love you just the same, but if it improves how you view yourself then it will be worth it. you will spend a lot of money on your kids throughout their lives and when they go to college just make a promise that you will put them through schooling and im sure you'll feel less quilt.

The selfishness you mention isn't the issue here. There is never any surgery which will improve your self esteem and confidence - that's not how it works. Only YOU can improve that, not a surgeon.
Besides, you should be doing it anyway so you can be improving yourself as a woman, growing to be the best mom and wife you can be.
