I would actually suggest you find another hobby. Modeling is really a nasty business. There are a lot of people that will try to take advantage, make a buck off of you, make promises they don't keep and judge unmercifully.
You might want to get into community theater or the like.
But if you decide to be a model, be aware! Go through a reputable, well-known agency. They will be honest with you. Ford or Elite were both good years ago, but you might check to see if that's still true.
You shouldn't have to spend a DIME! Have someone take snapshots of you and let the agency know your honest weight, height and measurements (including shoe size). Send your photos in. If they like you, they'll call you to come in. Dress nicely and be polite.
If you start working as a model, always be professional. Arrive on time and in a good mood. Follow direction well but if they ask you to do ANYTHING you're not comfortable with, trust your own judgement.
Keep a portfolio. You can purchase a black book with handles at a craft store or use a binder with page protectors. Put the snapshots in there to start with (8x10's if you can afford them) and then as you get jobs, put the new photos in front and keep the best snapshots. Eventually, you'll have photos only from jobs. Put the best in the front of your book as some employers will look at only a photo or two.
If you sign a contract with an agency, it's good to have an attorney look at it with you. Make sure all the lines are filled in and that you understand EVERYTHING. If you don't like something about it, you can speak with the agency and see if they'll change it.
And don't let negative statements sink in. Everyone will look for something different - long legs, long hair, short hair, curves, no curves, etc. And they'll say it out loud - they line everyone up and say, "You're too butch. You're too fat. You're too thin. You're too short."
Realize what they're really saying is "Our product will be too big on you or too small on you or whatever."
Good luck!

Start by taking simple polaroids of yourself. Don't take those expensive proffesional pics... because you can go broke in a matter of "snap shots". (lol) Get some cute clothes, bathing suites, and good poses, and have someone take some pics of you. Send some photos in, to Ford Models... and look at other modeling sights! Maybe you should go on America's Next Top Model?
Good Luck-
